    New recruiting rules

Has there been any real change at ID camps, showcases and unofficial visits? Are the college coaches actually not talking recruiting to any players before Sept. 1st junior year?

Seriously, can parents with 9th/10th grade players speak to how to approach showcases and Id clinics now that the rules have changed?

It's the first year, so no one can say they know.

As father of 02 freshman I can say that emails are simply running through club coach. Some reference multiple girls on team and include link to camps. Others have her name on subject line and encourage her to call with M:. Camp participation is part of these conversations. As far as what is happening at the camp, I think coaches are being very careful to be compliant in Year 1.

Unless coaches are given more specific do's and don'ts that the general public hasn't seen, it seems there is still a lot of gray with the new rules. They're not allowed to talk about "recruiting" but what exactly does that mean and how enforceable is that when it's via a conversation between two people? The new rules also came about just before summer ID camp season ramped up so most of them are probably sorting through it all. Coaches had timelines they were accustomed to working with and now that's all changed. If it all sticks it will help slow down early recruiting but won't stop it entirely. Supposedly more rules are in the works for next year to be more like LAX rules.

Are the coaches also not allowed to talk recruiting to the club coach? What CAN they say to the club coach?

Parent of an 03 ECNL girl going into 10th grade here. We've attended one multi school ID camp so far this summer and the D2 and 3 coaches were very receptive. The D1 schools were very careful with what they said to us. We are going to two D1 individual camps in the next few weeks so I'll know a little more then. Club coach has had a few calls from coaches interested and a couple phone calls have been arranged. Hoping something happens out of this summer's visits so we can take an actual vacation next summer instead of travelling to various ID camps.

New Rules are a Load of Crap,,

If College Coaches are not allowed to talk about recruitment, How are freshmen and sophomores getting committed to Colleges???? NCAA Rules are a joke if no one enforces them. What is the difference if College coaches speak directly to players/parents, or they talk to them through club/high school coach.

And people wonder why the system is so fouled up.

The new chages are half azzed. The only way to stop it (well, make a substantial difference) is zero communication until a certain date, either directly or indirectly, along with no campus visits or ID events until a certain date. Lax adopted something much more strict and rumor has it soccer will as well at some point, and that this was an intermediary step.

The commitments were probably made before the rule change.

Weren't the rules announced in April? That isn't a lot of time for college coaches or players to re-think their approach to summer ID events or recruiting overall. There's going to be some weirdness for awhile. Plus as discussed there are still lots of ways around the rules. Kids that do "commit" early are going to have to keep their mouths shut moving forward. Good luck with that.

It was a proposed rule change. All the coaches had a heads up.

Assuming many coaches are following the rules, or at least trying, what does a recruiting timeline look like now?

Those without offers won’t be contacted until September junior year.

Will coaches not express interest until July of their Junior year?
