    Very telling, this post.
Speed, size, and physicality are how Americans rank importance of skill set
Starting with IQ and the rest of your list is how the rest of the world does it.
    All teachable on 9v9 field

      9v9 until u15-pass and move
And don’t prattle on about high school readiness
The game is exactly the same at 9v9-pass and move

The game doesn’t change when you play 6v6 at older ages either-pass and move
You got to be kidding. In sme countries they are turning pro at 15. Also players try to score from just over the center circle because they have the leg

Yes high schools play on the big field.

I was responding to this comment. It isn't how soccer works here, or really anywhere.

          “Because they have the leg”?
          Really??
Sounds like they should be on nat’l team.
At least tell me they took a peak to see if keeper was off line.

Probably not, though, as soccer IQ is far down the requirement list

See it all the time. Kids try to score from way out on a short field. It's funny because they have a small percentage of scoring but they fire away.

How’d that work out for Adu?

We've got a player who was money from distance on a 9v9 field. 5-10 yards from beyond the area and she'd score all the time.

Problem is now we are on an 11v11 field. 5-10 yards from beyond that area is out of range. Yet, she fires away every chance she gets. Every shot lands softly in the keeper's basket. It's like she's calling a fair catch every time....

Point being: Bad habits that were allowed to exist on 9v9 become bad habits that are hard to break at 11v11.

Right. Because they’re physical, big and fast.
Not because their soccer IQ told them net was open.

This is the point. Coaches aren't developing the players, rather, they are encouraging lame shots that may go in against small goalies but end up harmless on a big field. The issue isn't the size of the field it's the coach trying to win a meaningless game instead of preparing them for a big field

And a big, physical kid at u12 is likely to be a non factor on a big field because they relied on their physical size alone... said in my Tony Meola voice

Agree OP is a troll, and also agree that its a reasonable conversation, so sharing our experience:
My D is fast. She would score multiple goals a game while younger, and I expected the larger field would amplify that. It didn't. On the smaller field with fewer players, she was in scoring position almost immediately after beating one defender. On the bigger field with more players she can outrun a defender on the flank (with ball or running onto ball) but she now has to cover space moving towards goal. More often than not she encounters another defender with angle of pursuit advantage. So in her case the 11 v 11 game (and a higher level of play) pushed her to develop better ball skills, build attacking moves, and vary her speed.

She still has a long way to go, her speed is certainly an asset, but my observation is that decisiveness looks faster than speed.

Yup. One move (maybe) and a shot on small field. Much different when you add on another thirty yards. Speed is good, speed with skill and iq is deadly

I think you’re missing the point here. Shooting outside the box is a necessary skill for people to have. Even if it isn’t effective at a young age, it’s the right way to play the game. Saying this is a bad habit is like saying passing short is a bad habbit: at younger ages it’s less effective but it’s the right way to play the game so you shouldn’t discourage it.

The player has the knowledge to do the right thing, just not the technical ability. Telling them that what they’re doing is wrong can encourage real bad habits, like dribbling closer to get a shot, hesistation, passing the ball backwards unnecessarily...

The developmental approach to this issue would be to work on the players shooting instead of telling them to not shoot.

Note: it said some countries which means not US

But if you want a US example ... It worked out great for Pulisic.
