So, my kid wants to play DA next year in a academy type setup and just started doing some research. We took a tour of img which is super impressive but a bit overwhelming with so many sports involved. So now we are considering out of state options if any? Talking to shattuck private school and academy. About 55k with a great education but not the best of location for a Florida boy. Anyone have any experience with this school or img for that matter?Img was even higher but some scholarship money would be available. We were also just told about Casa Grande in Arizona and looking into that now.

Shattuck is truly a prep school and gets a lot of soccer players ready for next level athletics. Having said that, not sure if your player is talented and smart that it is necessary or even desirable.
IMG is an average education and not that great with soccer development.

Take him to FC Dallas in Texas if he is great. They have taken a number of kids from florida and they send them to school near the academy and can work to help them find a place to live.
The best academy in the Country hands down.

This kid played CM Countryside last year he was moved to RB at Barca - my son says he had to compete against 2 other players one on U20USMNT team for minutes at that position. So be warned it is a dog fight there, they are 2 and 3 deep at each position, each team has MNT players, and they will pull players up from pre-academy to pressure starters even, as you said that is how it should be. Here is the roster at U19: http://grsa.ussoccerda.com/sam/teams...p?team=3951740

DC United had a residency program a couple years ago - dorms on a private school campus, bus to DA training each day. Dont know if it is still operating. My kid tried out for it 3 years ago prior to its inauguration season, and made the residency academy but not the DA team some local B team so we said no thanks.

Ship him off to prep school in New England. Even if soccer doesn't go anywhere he'll get a great education which matters far more in the end.
