    Thorns Player Makes National Team!

Unfortunately, it's a CALIFORNIA Thorns player on the u18 national team. So I guess we know which Thorns teams are the junior varsity.

Just stop. You are talking about people’s kids. It is pathetic.

Now now. I know you were sold a bill of goods that GDA was the path to the national team. And seeing the "little California Thorns team" player earn a roster spot over your little Alex has to sting. But on the bright side you get to watch her score a lot of goals - against Burlingame.

Do you not know that “little California Thorns” was De Anza before they joined GDA?

Shame they ruined their reputation and legacy by jumping on to a pyramid shamble.

            Ruined their reputation?

On the contrary, they are doubtless honored to be allied with the two-time NWSL champion Portland Thorns, who are, with little doubt, the best professional women's soccer team in the United States. Even if the local academy team isn't stellar (this is Oregon, after all), the Thorns' first team is simply the best there is without needing a passport.

That’s some impressive development from the Thorns/DA!!! Not even around for a year yet and their world class program has delivered national level talent! Truly impressive.

And yet not one single Portland Thorns DA will ever sniff at playing professional soccer locally

The team itself isn't very good but I guess the player must fit some mould.

Nobody wants to play professionally. You have to take 2nd and 3rd jobs to pay rent and keep the fridge full.

Just wait and see how long it lasts.

NWSL will last for a couple more years. MLS will prop it up. There were very few people at the championship game and overnight ratings vs college football were dismal.

Women's professional soccer is a niche sport. Did you think it would beat Alabama vs Arkansas for viewers? Is that the standard?

Women's collegiate soccer is a niche sport as well. Perhaps it's not fair, but that's the way it is.

At any rate, some of the local ECNL honks, trapped in the bubble of local youth sports rivalries, may fail to realize just how respected the Thorns organization is nationally.

And unlike the men's side, where there is the potential award of a lucrative contract at the end of the tunnel; girls and women have no such hopes. Success, there, is a D1 scholarship or a pro gig that helps to pay the bills, but doesn't do so completely.

Actually my daughter plays on an ECNL team. These posts are idiotic. People who make those kind of posts are fools.

Sorry you bought into the Thorns BS and went all in on a rec-level experience for your OYSA div 2 daughter.
