Here's your first clue - a club coach, if he's even on here, wouldn't post such an idiotic statement. Treat obvious club-slamming posts with a great deal of skepticism. Most times it's a competitive club (tryout season is coming soon don't forget and Stars gets more than its fair share of bashing) or a ticked off parent.

No family in our age group was told they couldn't go. Some chose to stay home.
Already committed and it's their business

Not a big deal if a few players stay home as long as the rest of the roster is solid and competitive - more PT for those who go, and as it's a showcase that's even better for them. The purpose of a showcase is just that.

That's about what we've experienced. on average. You can save some sending your kid with other families and the youngest teams don't do as many events. But over 4-6 years it really adds up. Then there's the costs of school visits and ID events added to the cost of getting recruited. You're into nearly a year's tuition by the time all is said and done.

Average? $0. There are plenty of kids to take spots and pay full boat.

Not even going to touch that can of worms. Rule #1 is don't except a scholarship. If you think there will be a payout in the end you're in it for the wrong reasons. If it works out that way then you won the lottery. If you're genuinely struggling to afford it, stay local in a cheaper league and use the savings for tutors and test prep. Good grades will often times get you far more assistance than any athletic grants

What if your kid already has top grades but wants to play soccer too?

Start big picture....decide if they want a D1 commitment or D3. If D1 what level is appropriate?
Not all D1 schools are as strong academically as many D3s. Not many players here have the soccer chops for the soccer programs that are also tops academically (like a Stanford). If lower D1 or strong D3 is the goal then being in the "top" league is less of a necessity. Look at rosters at target schools to see where current players came from.

One thing for sure is good grades open a lot more doors. Coaches like knowing you won't struggle academically or that they won't have to ask for admissions office favors

Thanks. Mine wants to go out of state so hoping for an at least good academic D3. Going to be tough to foot the bill at many schools though with just tuition and fees in the 50-70k range. Room and board, etc on top of that and we’re prob looking at 30-40k/year even if she gets 50% merit/athletic. Might need to go to a lower and cheaper school, more like 20-25k/year out of pocket after merit/athletic aid.
