Looking for opinions, experiences, feedback on NEFC boys DA and coaches. My son is interested in trying out coming from another club. Looking for strong development and coaches who teach through their love of the game. Please don’t just respond with a couple word sentences as I’m truly looking for feedback. Navigating the world of club soccer is difficult so best not to go in with eyes closed.

Honestly, I would never willingly endure the time, travel and financial commitment of DA soccer at a club that can’t provide it’s benefits during the recruiting years. You’ll end up club shopping heading into high school. -

- there's no telling where the player will two years from now; if he's good and develops then moving later shouldn't be an issue
- they could get full status at some point (less likely given how many there already are in the area)
To the OP: always go for the best coaching but also the best fit. You want him to be challenged but not struggling. You didn't say what level he's at now and he may or may not be ready for a big step up. Act now to try and get him included in practices at clubs you are considering. Practices are a much better way to assess fit than cattle call tryouts.Comment

DA is meaningless at the U-Little ages.
Find the best local value, meaning decent training at an affordable price. With the money you save do futsal in the winter and camps in the summer.Comment

You have too look at club soccer year to year because the landscape keeps changing as do a player's needs. Worry less about HS and focus on what a player is looking for in the next 1-2 years.Originally posted by Unregistered View PostComment

Now there's no U12. For the most part I'd agree with not doing DA at the younger ages, but only if your other club options are any good and the player wants to work at it. It's possible NEFC could be a great fit, but so could a non DA club. Varies player to player. Each DA NEFC team has a specific main coach. They also have a different coach for GK.

Is your son already in DA? If not, it will be hard to get into an already established u13 or u14 DA team. He would need to be extremely good and able to beat out kids who have already undergone intense training for the past year or more. If he's already in DA then he has a much better chance.
Coaching is excellent and focused on development. It's a direct and assertive style with no sugar coating. Kids need to have a thick skin, be willing to work hard, be committed to attending all practices, give 100% each time, and learn from mistakes and feedback. Laziness, goofing off, and attitude aren't tolerated.
It's also a huge time commitment for parents. Drive time and practices 4x/week x 2 hrs each time. But it's worth it if it's your kids passion and dream.Comment

Best advice is to get in touch now and attend some practices along with the tryouts. Your son will get a feel for the coach and players. Just because it’s DA doesn’t mean you’ll get the best coaching so better to see if the environment is what you are looking for.Comment

Also please keep in mind that you should only use this site for thought starters. Every parent who has ever felt like they have been burned or who’s kid just couldn’t make the team will crap all over anything you say or do - so it’s basically a great place for trash talking. Biggest question is always roster size. Believe DA typically only dresses 18 kids per game but some carry as many as 22 which means 4 kids aren’t even going to each game. Combine that with DA rules state that all rostered players must start 25% of all season games and it gets even trickier....Comment
