I will agree though, that “who you know” matters every bit as much or more than “what you know” in securing a good job. Making sure to network and intern and join industry or trade groups is essential, again, whatever university you go to. Some universities are better at proactive connecting a student whereas in other situations, the student must be the aggressor in this area of effort. Back to soccer, send your kid to a school to get a degree they want to use, forgo the debt of a highly touted school, make sure they prioritize networking and they will be more than fine.
There is a range in perception. Ivy League may not be viewed as significantly better than UW, but probably higher than Eastern Oregon, etc...

Also your experience and what you do in college matters a lot. You mentioned networking... this is where the top schools standout. The education quality of UW vs. Harvard may be similar, but you can't compare the alumni network at the Ivy Leagues are a different level. If you play sports at an Ivy League then you are even higher up on the pyramid.

This all matters a lot for your first job, but once you get some work experience this stuff begins to matter less. 15 years later, College Club Soccer looks very much like College Varsity soccer on the resume.

Fact is anyone can make it and there are exceptions to any rule. Many union laborers make more money than many Ivy art history majors. Fact is that many studies have been done and going to better schools (in general) land you higher paying jobs out of college and that higher income continues years down the road. Yes, it also matters what degree you get. Yes, it also matters how much money your family has to help support you. Bottom line is the average elite school grad is going to have an easier time finding a job and will have a higher average income for life, on average. The above poster aside, more companies are eager to hire the 1400-1600 SAT, elite college grad that is wicked smart. If you graduate well from an elite school, chances are you are not only wicked smart, but also hard working and efficient. The connections one makes at elite schools blows connections made at Podunk U out of the water, most of the time. Don’t fool yourself that your kid can’t make it at a Podunk U because they certainly can. Most people are average and do just fine. However, don’t kid yourself that going to an elite school isn’t much more advantageous, on average.

Soccer is the same. Sure you could make it to the USWNT after playing at Podunk U, but chances are much better if you play at UNC, Stanford, UCLA. The good news is there are millions more jobs than USWNT spots so the Podunk U grads will still find gainful employment. Some girls don’t have the smarts to go to an elite or even good academic school. Some girls don’t have the soccer chops to play soccer at an elite or even good soccer school. Find your fit and do the best you can but saying Podunk U is just as good as a top academic college is like saying rec soccer is the same as CalSouth DA/ECNL soccer.

Very true. But the odds of getting that great first job, the one that starts you higher up on the ladder, is better at the better schools. Same with getting into the better grad schools. That's what families hope for when they're targeting certain schools - improving the odds for long term success. Not a guarantee, but improving the odds. With the cost of a college education now and horror stories of college grads working at Starbucks I don't blame them.

For top clubs and players. Others can still enjoy the games.

If they lifted the high school ban It might improve turnout for gda? A lot of top .01% players want to represent their schools and communities.

USSF will never budge on that one. If they did it for the girls they have to do it for the boys. It also would make them just like ECNL, no point of differentiation. Then, there's their arrogance. Won't happen.

We don't have an local neighborhood clubs accepted into the national DA for boys or girls,
Not sure why anyone would care what random elite clubs across the nation do for youth development platform. That is if they were Accepted into DA? or choose to sign up for US Club or USYS leagues. Not really of any consequence to us in Oregon.

Now if the funded Timbers or Thorns DA opted out and vanished that would be a tough blow for our best local youth players, since they play at the highest level for youth and cover the bills.

Timbers & Thorns haven't dropped from the National DA have they?

If you have an elite girl I’d stick with ECNL ten times out of ten.

SoCal and Crossfire Washington agree with this.

Where do you sign up for the ECNL? Didn't see any club named ECNL on our local club websites? Is this like Chance soccer Academy? or The FreeBirds, swift group? Also can you be so kind and make a list of Oregon's Elite Girls? better yet why not email them about this new ECNL group 10x. None of the Elite Women's D1 colleges have any Oregonians even roistered on a squad as even filler. No Oregonians fill up the Power 5 Conference All-League selections. We have no Elite HS girls from Oregon yet. Sorry UNC and their elite peers aren't reaching out to us. Maybe this new club 'ECNL' will change this...

"Roistered"? Man, work on your writing, spelling and your sarcasm because it's all bad.

New club ECNL? Clearly you know nothing about youth soccer in Oregon. You don't need to email them about these clubs because it's where they already play.
