First child is moving into the "love it or leave it" portion of travel soccer. To be honest, we love it. Good teammates, good coach, nice organization. I am wondering if offspring can wait until the big cattle call for the ECNL/NPL, or do we need to get the child into the system prior to the great culling.

What age?
You probably need to at least get the kid onto the radar screen at the big clubs.
Regardless of what anyone tells you here, it doesn't need to happen before U14.

If kid real stud and premier coaches call you out of the blue multiple times a year see if your daughter is interested and could play for free or discounted regardless what your income is. Stay until they call you.
If you don't fit either of these stay put and enjoy every second.

wait as long as possible before getting on the hamster wheel. We were on at U10 and wish we had waited.

And truthfully, it doesn't have to be CFC. Would could do FSA with where we live. Just wondering if we show up at U14 with a "Hey, we're here" and the door is already closed.

Don't expect development and don't expect guaranteed spot on ENCL roster. It's a competitive environment where those know how to develop on their own will get to test themselves and possibly shine and get chances.
The reals decision is your finances if 5 to 10K year for not problem for an extracurricular activity go for it.
But if your an anxious person (asking strangers on this anonymous board for advice would lead me to believe you are) and money is an issue stay away "if it's not broken don't fix it."

Are people approaching you about your daughter's soccer skills and playing potential and not asking for you money??? If not relax and enjoy what you have and if she want's to get better some private training or select programs like PDP are better choice to test the waters with out getting sucked in.
If you look at any ECNL roster those from outside players are there but they are to top 1/4 of those teams with very large rosters.
