The new hire will get a 4 year contract and time to bring in their own players. For the first two years, they’ll need to win with the previous coach’s. That’s how it works.
However what is true is if a coach commits a kid and then the same coach takes another and pulls the scholarship offer at the nth hour, that is a problem for everyone not named Anson Dorrance.

and why would the AD be so enamored with the recruits of a coach he just fired (presumably for lack of success)

Junior recruits most likely play for well established clubs. And a coach would be foolish to jeopardize those club relationships, especially for a lower tier DI program. There will be a number of girls who self select out due to coaching change, and that will allow the new coach to bring in a few of his own. Sophomore girls should expect to be thrown into the general recruiting pool again.

JO is a good family man. Coached my kid and cared about the girls and was a positive influence. Good luck to him and his family.

It goes both ways. New coach may not want some or all of the commits; commits may not like the yet to be named new coach. Seniors are the ones in a very tough spot at this point. One would hope the school and coach would honor those commitments if they players still want to attend. But anyone past that would be at risk.
This is why you you don't want to burn any bridges when recruiting either- you may need to reach out layer on if something doesn't work out.

I know its happened that ADs have locked in all even undocumented committments. look at the number of commits to Villanova. If mcLain could have dumped a bunch he would have no doubt. He did however appear to get a bunch of kids who fit his system and had fat 529s to jump on top of the previous coach's kids
