    CIAC Reffing is Effing

I thought tournament refs were supposed to be the best of the best of the best.

    Oh my effing gawd.

    What a sht show.

Are they paid off by one team or another, or do they make crap calls by accident? Sooo many bad calls, and, worse, lack of reasonable calls. This can't be accidental, can it?

2 ref system? These guys couldn't ref their way out of a wet paper bag with a ten-man effing system.

    Horrendous.

In the two man system they miss a lot. There were definitely a few games decided by the refs in this tournament. It happens every year. I know refs are scare during the regular season but it seems unreasonable not to have a center and two A/Rs in a single elimination tournament. Simple offside calls are missed and unless the refs are super fit they are missing a lot of easy calls. Its part of the charm of the high school game.

not for HS games per say, but found that with my son he's super fit and could easily keep up with the speed of play, but because he's (relatively compared to some of the dinosaurs) new to reffing, he's still learning things and missed things due to that. A youngster who's fit AND had a lot of games under their belt as a ref is probably worth their weight in gold.

They tend to put the shati old farts for the girls , they can’t move for shat —-old farts taking stock piles of Advil.

Sure, but the cycloptic geriatric guys with the wooden leg and carrying twins are the ones who get the prime tournament gigs.

HS school ref here. The 2 person system only works on lower level games. Too much dead space in the middle of the field, officials are too far away from play. Should we stay with the 2nd to last defender while looking for offside and we cannot see fouls. Putting referees not experienced in the 3 person system is almost as bad. They don't have fitness to keep up with play and the center referee will ignore them because they are not used to using them. There are some very good referees out there but they have hard time getting off work for a 2:00PM game and/or are working college games which pay considerably more.

Lets not forget there are egos out there that need to be stroked. Long live the old boys network. :-(

Guys, it's high school soccer. How many quality refs are available at 2pm weekdays?

Do you actually think a person's ability to effectively manage a match determines whether they are chosen to officiate in HS?

Thanks for the post. Do HS refs cheat for the home team, consciously or subconsciously?

Well, the question is whether that cheating is "accidental" or they get paid off?

So are all your teams wins tainted or just the loses?

Winning of course. Light practice today, quarterfinals next, but we have to work pretty hard to overcome the two-player advantage our oppnents have enjoyed, especially in the last game. 13 v 11 is not quite fair.
