This would screw the next class down's trapped players. Imagine you are a junior trapped with the U18/19s then go with the U17s to their showcase. I'm assuming the club coaches would play the older girls most because they are trying to secure their recruiting offers as juniors. Meanwhile the sophomores on the U17s likely get benched. That's totally fair! NOT!

There aren't many trapped kids to work in and there are ways to work them in so that players get decent PT at events. A club has a responsibility to help all its players. That said, it doesn't mean it will.happen. Because she's a sophomore this is the time to make the most of events. Coaches do shop by year and they will go watch if video or a club coach call sparks their interest. They really don't care what team she plays on.

True, however ACL injuries can/do occur at unfortunate times in the recruiting process resulting in a year away from Ecnl showcases. If your daughter is in the 8th grade, enjoy. My daughter’s injuries began in the 9th grade and never let up. ECNL from U14 to U19.

There's only 3 events for them, all early in the season and nothing later in the year which makes a ton of sense as they're mostly seniors. If their team makes it to nationals that's another event in June. Trapped kids in GDA have fewer events to try and be seen

Similar with both my players. Both pretty injury free until HS hit then it was a lot of doctor's visits, copays and PT.

So a 2022 trapped player is on a team with 2020 seniors and all the events are early in the season? That sucks.

Ecnl comes to its senses and goes grad year!

ECNL would be wise to go grad year and solve all these problems. This would get them huge market share from GDA as well. Too late for my kids but ECNL is bound to come to their senses at some point!

It wouldn't be huge but in a dog eat dog fight for market share it would give them an edge for some players

The ECNL market share is the college path. Grad year would make sense for college coaches.

It makes it easier for them for sure but it's the talent that draws them to events. They've all adjusted to the new system. The bigger issue with the system is the many 8th and 12th graders who have no teams to play on

Add the two issues together and it makes perfect sense for ecnl to switch to grad year age groups. Every grad year would have a team - how easy! All the trapped players would switch in an instant too!

There were rumors last spring around tryout time that ECNL would do it. Maybe they will for next year.

Makes so much sense for ECNL to do this
Reinforce brand promise on college pathway by optimizing for recruiting class, and drive key brand differentiator aligning with HS play

Let GDA own NT pathway and international alignment.

Agree. ECNL can go to Grad Year teams while gda can’t. Ecnl would capture majority of market share with a switch to grad year teams. Gda is playing their cards; ECNL would be stupid to sit idly by and not play their major card.

                                Regarding injuries at HS age

I am not necessarily a fan of GDA but I understand why some choose that path because they have the correct training to game ratio in place. Until HS reduces the unhealthily schedule of playing 6 days a week with a minimum of 2 game days, the injuries will continue. Especially since most HS coaches overuse their ECNL level talent.

Of course there will still be injuries, but definitely fewer of them.
