U14 is the correct age imho. Can't speak for football but the OPL has records from previous years for futbol and look at the number of teams at U13 for say the girls. Then look at the number at U16.

I don't think the statement is meant to say "70% of kids quit that start competitive soccer at U10/11". It is easy to understand that 70% of the kids that try soccer at U6-7-8-9 don't make it to competitive and quit along the way.

these are the kids that start playing competitive waaaaaaaay too early and have parents that drive them into the ground.

        bottomline....results don't matter until about U16

most of you baseball/football nuts will disagree but this is how it is done on the rest of the planet.

In Holland, kids wear pinnies and play small sided games until U13, no scores are kept and kids are bounced around the field playing different positions.

the United States is ***** backwards....soccer is parent driven and it is failing because parents are too involved.

Let's see...The USWNT is the best in the world doing it that way. What could be wrong there? The USMNT is good, not great. I truly do not believe we field our best male atheletes, which is completely different than most "other" countries. If we did, then the USMNT would be #1 also. This attempt to "europeanize" soccer in America is stupid. Competitive soccer is there to weed out those who play soccer to be with their friends, not those who play soccer because they love it.

Parents are not ruining anything. It is the constant comparison to European football that is ruining it.

Look at the number of teams that are filled from U10-U14 and then look at the number of teams that are filled at the HS ages. I would not say they quit at 13, but in my own "eye" test it seems at least half of the girls quit at HS ages

Yes, some kids leave sports because their coaches are awful people.

Look at the Westside girls program. They get horrible coaches who yell at the girls the whole time, so what happens? Girls quit. Some quit soccer, some move clubs. Some kids see that there are other options out there, and some stick around too long thinking here are no other options. When the joy is gone, what's the point.

Parents, don't support clubs who don't support your children.
