ECNL is not something FC Portland has always done. That is the point, it is supposed to be new, better and more professional. Isn't that why we are paying so much more?

Paying the travel expenses for team personnel is normal at all top level clubs. Why should these people work for free? If you're not paying your coach's and manager's expenses then you are at a 2nd or 3rd tier club.

You're paying exactly $500 more for twice as much training. That's it. The rest of the cost is related to travel and those policies haven't changed. All FCP teams travel the same way: the team travels together, eat together, stay 4 to a room without parents, and the team manager organizes it all and chaperones the kids while on the trip. If you want to do the job, ask for it. We'll see how long you want to keep doing it for free.

If you don't like the club policies, maybe you should go somewhere else.

Considering that you are talking about $5,000+ for the ECNL season that's not a bad gig for doing what the rest of the traveling teams managers have done for free for ages.

So for about 4 hours work each day you get free air fare, room and a food allowance. PLUS get to watch your DD play sign me up! Did they draw straws for the position because I know that there would be more than one mom up for that!

Now a free room and a food allowance I can handle but free air fare to watch your kid play is a bit much IMHO!

Additionally, you have work to do even when there are no matches to play, half of the matches are at home, there is work to do.

At least on our team, the parents either want the option to not travel or enjoy their travel over what they might save by being manager.

We are already spending $7,000 to $9,000, I am sure not happy about having to also give all expense paid trips to the team manager. Especially if they are buying alcohol and trying to bill that to parents.

FC's finances are in great shape and their fees are no higher than other premier clubs. Maybe not $300 per year like your Mickey Mouse TA rec+ club but then...
