    US Club Soccer Insensitive Letter

    https://www.usclubsoccer.org/news_article/show/1098682

Club Soccer’s CEO letter starts out ok, but by the end it just shows what self-centered, insensitive a-holes are running the show. We have the experts saying we’ll see 100,000-200,000 dead if we somehow manage social distancing perfectly and a peak might be 2-3 weeks away. A peak doesn’t mean it disappears entirely either; this is definitely running into May, and probably June. So why after acknowledging that these are tough times and safety is the most important thing in the letter does he not just show leadership and say the season’s over and do the honorable thing and advocate for clubs to give refunds? Instead we get the season might be extended into July and it’s premature to inquire about refunds. Because in the end it’s not about families and players, it’s about keeping your money in their greedy pocket. Millions are losing there jobs! Thousands are dying! Show some dignity, Club Soccer, and do the right thing!

There is absolutely no reason to call things off now. None. Keep putting plans in place, and be prepared to move them out until there is no time left.

Sorry, I didn't take offense to anything in that article. Well written, thoughtful and hopeful, but unsure as we all are and should be.

As a soccer club president, I have been actively contacting the leagues begging them to cancel the season. Not only is it extremely unlikely that the schools will release the fields for clubs to use until the fall, and maybe not even then, the simple fact of the matter is that millions of people just lost their paychecks and could use whatever refund money that can come their way.

My club has already decided to give at least 75% refunds, and possibly 100% depending on what the leagues do in terms of refunding the clubs, but we can't pull the trigger on that until the seasons are officially cancelled.

A small town club on Long Island. I'd rather not state the name at this time.

You are doing the right thing. I wish more would, as well.

It was also written before the 100K+ number was floated by the administration. They were merely following Trump's announcement that April 30th would be the earliest we might (MIGHT) be able to reopen some things/some parts of the country. Compared to pastors still defying distancing laws and holding services this is hardly "offensive"

This “I’m just following guidelines” is getting old. Here’s the facts, the experts have been laying out the models for months showing this isn’t ending anytime soon (certainly not April 30). Either Trump didn’t want to listen or he wanted to spoon feed the bad news by pushing the date out further and further. Either way, the American people deserved the truth so people took this seriously and prepared. So Trump can say Easter, or April 30, or May 15; but the reality is that this will be with us into June; and if you believe the experts, who haven’t been wrong so far, it will probably flare up again the fall.

This US Club Soccer CEO is paid to lead and make decisions on facts, not politician promises. He’s just spoon feeding ridiculous dates like Trump so that the member clubs and tournament organizers won’t have to make refunds, or at least not full refunds, for the Spring. It’s all a game, but not in the best interests of players or families.
