Atlanta United FC put the club into Boys ECNL. Announcement today.
I bet MLS league does not start until Fall 2021.

If you read the MN Academy story and read between the lines, they are using this as an excuse to cut back on expenditures. Manny Lagos was not being honest with respect to the state of the league, just wanted to shift blame from MN United academy to the MLS league to save face. Basically its the same way the Cosmos let their academy staff, and players go. The ONLY thing that will stop the MLS league from moving forward will be COVID-19 and if that's the case all leagues will be impacted. MLS academies and amateur clubs are having regular meetings to move forward with the competition structure and governance.
So what do you make of Atlanta United playing in ECNL?
      Just wanted competition?
Maybe they think MLS can’t get league together before Fall 2021?

Maybe they wanted more control over their own pricing. Maybe they felt that's what their customers wanted...who knows. I wouldn't read too much into it - YET

I would hope its their B team. The ECNL does not have very good competition on the boys side (at least on the East Coast). Any MLS pro academy should annihilate the ECNL.

Meanwhile applications are being taken for more teams to join MLS "for the inaugural 2020" season. To me that sounds like they're not ready for fall 2020

People thought I was kidding about MLS kids playing high school soccer this fall.

Atlanta is a hotbed of soccer. They are deep in talent. They have Latin leagues that all the da & ECNL coaches scout for talent.
They have like 4 DA’s and 4 ECNL clubs in Atlanta area and all are very solid.
Played against 3 of them over the years.
Could be their B team or they may be betting MLS is not able to get their league off the ground in the fall and need more time.

Atlanta United U15 and U17 will play in the MLS Professional Division (vs MLS Elite Division) while their other age groups will play in ECNL (likely due to travel, cost, etc). Most MLS academies have cut all age groups other than the now required U15/U17. Atlanta United doesn’t have “B” or second teams but have fieldEd non-DA/MLS teams, such as the U16 age bracket in the past.

Haven’t confirm directly but heard that AU may run a U19 Team in ECNL instead of cutting that age group altogether since the MLS Professional Division no longer offers that age group.

There is no “professional” division. MLS teams will play against non-MLS teams weekly. The only thing non-MLS teams will be excluded from is the GA format.

The U15/U17 MLS Teams will play a very select number of local non-MLS teams (similar to the old DA Tiering, at one point called Red Division and Blue Division)

While we haven’t seen a schedule yet, we expect that the NE Revs schedule will look similar to this years U19 schedule; 2-3 games in the fall with Red Bull’s, NYCFC, Philadelphia, DC, Montreal? plus a few additional games added with Top ranked local teams (similar schedule in spring). While there are a number of teams in the Northeast (and now part of the new MLS league) we only played Bethesda, PDA, and one other team. COVID may require less travel this fall but the long-term plan would be going in this direction.

You’ve been sold a lie by snake oil salesmen. There will be no travel beyond New England teams. Forget D.C., New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania when it comes to games. Revs will play Beachside, Bolts, Oakwood and Seacoast in the fall.

Probably yes but don't blame the clubs. They have contend with ever changing health department/state and local guidelines. Even though games may be more limited vs a regular schedule, I don't see clubs letting players do HS. BDA was dead set against ot and that won't change now. There might not even be fall HS sports any way
