Very few, but that's because there are very few players that can make any pro teams - not because parents aren't crazy enough to do it.

Looking at it from a players standpoint, playing in the MLS league for a non MLS club will get me the best shot at exposure to MLS academy team, which is free to play. So BS and OW are more attractive than ECNL boys. Get it?

Here is one that made the trek and is now off to Stanford University.

Prepped at Hartford Magnet Trinity College Academy (Grades 9-10) and K12 International Academy (Grads 11-12)
Represented New England Revolution at the club level (2016-20)
U-14 International Champions Cup champions (2017)
U-14 International Champions Cup Goalkeeper of the Tournament (2017)
Has served as club captain at the U-14, U-15, U-17 and U-19 levels
Has trained with the Revolution first team starting in 2017
Inaugural member of the Revolution Academy Residency (2019)

If your kid has the skills they will be found. Most players, as someone said above, do not so then you have choices. That said, boys ECNL in CT is pretty weak. FSA has some solid teams, CFC is just bad. You should pick the best coaching and club and fit, not the patch on the sleeve. It's not like OW and BS don't have issues either.

Thanks Mr Jones. No one said it's never been done, but there are simply few CT players that make MLS rosters. It's just a fact, small state and not that much talent. That kid went to the Revs because it was closer, some go to NY because of location. Face it both NY clubs are better than the Revs.

It is just great to see a CT kid put the work in, make sacrifices, and go on to Stanford - which is arguably the best academic/soccer program in the country. Youth soccer development = Free, Stanford Education = Free. Wow!

Signed NOT Mr Jones, but just another dad pay big dollars for CT youth soccer.

My son won't play ecnl because he refuses to wear the mandatory skirt required for that girls league. He would rather sell the raffle tickets.

If your boy loves show tunes, skirts and playing dress-up than ecnl is for them. Otherwise MLS, EDP, NPL, etc.

Your son sounds like he wears the pants in the pants in the family and you wear the skirt. You can’t teach stupid
