If there is a huge surplus of scholarships out there then the ECNL will serve a purpose, if not then it will be a waste.

That is not to say that the only way to go D1 is through the DA. That is obviously not the case. However since there at least 40-50 U18/19 youth teams in Mass each with ?? 16-18 players then it is clear that DA players are more likely to get into a D1 school.

Since D1 or national team is a reasonable goal for DA players then we can say, based on the list, that more than 1/3 of D1 recruits came from the Massachusetts DA. On average the Revs and bolts are graduating 8-10 per year. So, more than half of the graduating seniors who are DA players go to D1 schools to play soccer.

While it's still early the op said that not only is this most recent class the smallest, it also had the lowest percentage of players getting PT. In general about 1/3 are playing a lot, another 1/3 an ok amount, remaining 1/3 very little or none at all. the numbers only do down the next year and year after. The odds of playing four meaningful years is low. He does the analysis for each year. The last post on the thread linked below has links to the prior two years' classes (post 547).

OK. Let me put it another way. While another might be willing to take all the committed and run through the college rosters and games (depending on how each college posts their stats) to tally how much each kid is playing per game........I am not that energetic. Of course, my perspective might be different on this. I look at soccer as a game that helps achieve goals...figuratively speaking.
Will the DA or ECNL promise playtime? Well if your kid is very very good and would play all the time at BU (nowhere near the top 25) but actually goes to North Carolina, currently ranked number one, and rides the bench, does that mean the local DA or ECNL is worthless? Without some kind of calculation to determine the value of each school and what playtime at Wake Forest is compared to Bryant, how can you use this to decide the value of local youth programs?

Broader question is that players need to soul search on is what are your goals and aspirations. If you are highly skilled and top D1 is your goal then DA or prep school is the better path. It isn't the only path but definitely a much easier one. But if top D1 isn't your goal and you're likely to go to school in the area or maybe down through NY and PA then you have more options. Lower level D1 and certainly D3 doesn't require DA and there are countless excellent schools in the area. So then you have to look at your club options and find the one with the best training and development. It may or may not be DA depending on what clubs is in your area. But if you're not doing DA it can't be just any club. It better be ECNL or whatever few good NPL clubs are left, and be prepared to hustle more than DA players have to. How important high school sports are to you plays a role too.
