Most towns have ordinances that the lights have to be off by a certain time. The lights aren't cheap either - took forever for my cheap azz town to put them in

the problem with most towns, mine included, is that the fields usually are near residential areas, and there's ALWAYS at least one or two homeowners who are going to raise hell with the town council over light pollution, even if the lights are turned off at a reasonable hour (I mean, what teams really practice past 8 or 8:30pm).
