Former Yale Coach, Rudy Meredith, Takes Helm of Federal Correctional Inst. Team!

Press Release: Federal Correctional Institute, Danbury, Connecticut is pleased to announce the Appointment of Rudy Meredith (formerly of Yale) as the new Carlo and Mary Gambino named Head Soccer Coach.

    https://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/20...kKP/story.html

It started, improbably, with a securities fraud investigation out of Boston, a so-called pump-and-dump stock scam that extended overseas.

FBI agents and federal prosecutors quickly homed in on a financial executive, according to several people familiar with the case, who said he was willing to cooperate with authorities. He also offered investigators a tantalizing tip, one entirely unrelated to stock prices — a Yale University women’s soccer coach had asked him for a bribe to help get his daughter admitted into the elite school.

By April 2018, the executive was wearing a recording device for the FBI when he met with coach Rudolph “Rudy” Meredith in a hotel room in Boston. For a payment of $450,000, Meredith said, he would be willing to designate the executive’s daughter as a recruit for the team, all but guaranteeing her acceptance. Meredith left with a $2,000 down payment, court records say.

Rudy Meredith had way too close of ties with Boca United and other South Florida kids. I don't know if anything wrong occurred, but at least it should be looked at.

Enough Yale reject dad. Your kid still wasn't good enough. No amount of trying (and failing) to implicate the guy in anything further will change that. Hopefully she's moved on. Maybe it's time you did too.

Forget the reject dad, the kids that accepted and played soccer for Yale (and their parents) are the ones that should be worried. The investigation that Yale is undertaking at present will, at best be a huge embarrassment and inconvenience to those kids, but could end up being a lot worse for some of those kids and their parents.

All those kids on the roster actually played soccer before going to Yale. Some are very good. Yale has a solid Ivy record. This guy wasn't filling his roster with bribed kids who can't play soccer. They'd have to find kids who were tipped for soccer then dropped out before school started. The indictment stated he did it five times since 2011 and he's been fully cooperating with the FBI. His goose is cooked so he has little reason to hide anything else.

No doubt Yale will be investigating all their athletic admits and procedures. I just don't think they'll find much. Singer worked with a lot of people but much of it was the test cheating side of it vs the fake athletes. Yale won't be the only school - even schools not involved will be re-assessing where to draw the line between athletics and academics.

Ten on the Yale roster are from California and is that a red flag?

They actually played and currently play soccer. Its the ones that get admitted then drop out "for academics " or "they're injured" before pre season starts.

There's nine. All play. Several have college accolades. One is on the Phillipines NT pool. All have HS resumes that could be verified with quick google searches. So unless the coach made up all their resumes and they magically learned how to play soccer before arriving at school it seems there's nothing else there. That must be why they consistently finished middle of the Ivy pack under RM...years of fake players.

I agree with above it's the ones that dropped out that are of interest. Some kids do drop out for legitimate reasons but moving forward they will be questioned,. No doubt admissions officers will now have extra work to do verifying the resumes of athlete applicants (rather than take the word of coaches).

This is not entirely true. They all did play soccer, but the level at which some played prior to college compared to other college recruits, looks fishy.

At a program like Yale you're not going to find a roster #1-28 of top level players. In fact there's many programs where there isn't a roster filled exclusively of just DA or ECNL level players and half a dozen NT players. Only the nation's top elite soccer programs will have that. The rest will have a combination of varying degree. If players are getting college PT they're not rec level scam artists. Coaches still need to keep a decently winning record to keep their jobs so they're not going to give PT unless it's deserved.

Also, due to the "Academic Index" employed exclusively by the Ivy League schools, they will often bolster their roster with academic super-stars (who will rarely see play time), to balance out the lower academic grades of some of the other players. The studious players will generally (not always) not show great soccer credentials. (Of course, there are many exceptions of soccer and academic stars as well).

Ha Ha! Can you just see those rich parents now?...scrambling to find private coaching for their kids so they can quickly learn some soccer skills they can demonstrate?

None of this is related to roster spots, scholarships, real players. Just greed from all sides.

That was so nice of the Gambino Family to sponsor this coaching position. Must be a great family.
