Heard it from multiple sources that ECNL league is going to expand to have more local league play. People are finally getting tired of all this out of state traveling leading to nowhere. It took some time but don’t be surprised if there are 6 CT Based ECNL clubs in the near future.

By all accounts they're just re-brandng the NPL teams as ECNL 2. No big whoop. It wouldn't be a year in youth soccer without change. Bigger question is what happens to GDA. It's floundering badly, especially in the NE.

Let me guess. Increased costs.

Multiple localized leagues already exist. We dont need yet another one - marketed as better or improved or this or that no doubt.

Question Man Responds
What's the point of adding more teams to ECNL or NPL in this area?
At what point does the ECNL no longer include "elite clubs"?
Is the ECNL on a path to look like the CJSA?

ECNL 2 would consolidate NPL Leagues and capitalize on the brand power of the ECNL. Get rid of Northeast NPL, New England NPL and create a regional league that consists of the second teams from CFC and FSA, OW, GPS, FC Boston, Stars, South Shore etc.
ECNL would still host their traditional showcases in CA, AZ and Texas but that continues to be for the ECNL. Regional showcases are introduced which lessens the travel burden and expenses for families as well as colleges.
Let's face it, if your kid is playing an NPL team you probably aren't targeting D1 schools and probably not even looking beyond a few hour radius of home No need for plane travel to attain those goals.
The handful of top players that come out of here each year still really need to National exposure and that's mainly because coaches want to see how they handle the pressure and speed of playing teams from Texas and California. The kids targeting mid major D1 are essentially along for the ride.
My kid is about to age out but I'd love to see this happen. The time and expense involved in youth soccer is crazy.

Question Man Responds
Doesn't this all make more sense if promotion/relegation were implemented to move clubs up or down the ladder?
