    When a player like Foster Langsdorf plays for the Washington Timbers until U17 and then moves to the Academy does not mean he was developed at the second club. W T F C players are hot commodities by Portland clubs.

    A 2014 graduate of Mountain View High School in Vancouver, Wash.
    Played soccer for two seasons
    Helped lead team to league titles in 2010 and 2011 and was named all-league both seasons
    Played for Portland Timbers Academy (2012-14) and FC Portland (2011-12)
    Member of the Timbers’ U-18 Academy Team in the USSDA
    Named 2013 Portland Timbers Academy Player of the Year
    Played an exhibition with the Timbers' first team against Mexican side Morelia in September 2013
    Saw action in MLS Reserve League matches for the club
    Played a year up on the U-17 team of FC Portland in 2011-12

    No mention of Washington Timbers. Must have been really influential on his development.

        Sounds like the player knew a little bit about development and made the move to leave Washington Timbers to FC Portland to further his development.

          Back to my point, players leave Washington Timbers by high school. Prior to high school most families are looking for convenience.
