Last year - the first year for the composite teams in ECNL (not the Composite Showcase - it started two years ago) - less than half the clubs had composite teams in the SEC. With the way the clubs games were set up they would only have one game per weekend - so they didn't "ride the bus" since they only played one day of the weekend. Even if clubs did have composite teams there were many instances where they didn't want to play, so the games didn't happen. Not sure how many clubs will actually have the composite teams this year.

The folllowing 5 have Composite teams teams at U18/19.
BUSA-Alabama
GSA-Georgia
FESA-Florida
FKK-Florida
Tampa-Florida
Then you have clubs that also have GDA's so why bother with composite when the talent
is thinned already between GDA and ECNL. These include:
Tophat-Georgia
Concorde-Georgia
Orlando City-Florida
This only leaves Jacksonville and Atlanta Fire who did not want to bother as they deem it a hassle. They would rather have their B teams play NPL and State Cup / Athena A League in Georgia.
No more clubs mon ami.

The GDA clubs have gotten around this by setting up dual/composite age group teams for the older groups from the start.
2017/18 season
U14 – 2004
U15 – 2003
U17 - 2001-2002
U19 – 1999-2000
2018/19 season
U14 – 2005
U15 – 2004
U17 - 2002-2003
U19 – 2000-2001

There's going to be a new showcase and it's going to be tremendous. It's going to be so tremendous only stars with a tremendous amount of star power will play in them. No one has ever seen a tournament like this before. It will be the best of the best and its gonna be Uuugggggeeee.

Flawed System
Originally posted by Unregistered View PostA hassle or they didn't have the numbers to make a team justifiable. You're either recruited by then or you're not, so fielding a solid team in that age group is tough. Some clubs are taking on huge rosters per age group then putting the overflow onto a composite team. That's just a money grab. If you're not going to be on a roster regularly for your age group and they offer you composite? Go elsewhere.
Is a composite team the right answer? It depends on the situation. It really comes to exposure. Exposure does not just come from tournaments. It comes from doing your homework, contacting coaches sending video, resumes etc. It also comes from attending ID camps if the coaches show any interest after your contacts.
I know players that played on poor teams at the State Cup level and now play college ball not based on the team's performance in tournaments but excelling in and having strong performances at ID Camps.
Is the system flawed for ECNL Composite teams ?? At this time, I would say yes.

Exposure

What are you doing the rest of the time ? "blowing bubbles" ;)
Sure you can play tournaments but it still limits significantly your so called "exposure".
Do you still think it has no flaws?? Really ???

Playing eight quality teams even if twice is still better competition. The Composite ecnl league has the right idea but needs all the ecnl clubs on board. I can see why ecnl did not want clubs going to DA to keep their ecnl because it waters down their platform and the ecnl second team pools. But people need to stop treating the senior Composite ecnl teams as "washed up". The point of these Composite teams is to have a strong second tier to continue developing for the first team when needed. If you don't have a solid B ecnl league then the players who do not make the first ecnl team will leave the club for GDA or anything. Also, a Composite team allows advanced u17 players to play up in the u18/u19 too. So this year you will have mainly 2000 juniors and seniors, 1999 seniors, and some 2001 sophomores on the Composite teams. The ecnl Composite team concept is a young idea and must be implemented correctly and with all the ecnl clubs backing it. The ecnl leaders, club DOCs, and coaches need to come together and find ways to make it work and treat the Composite teams not as a separate entity but integral to the whole success of ECNL. The ECNL Composite teams must have a place at the main ECNL Showcase events. The Composite teams must feel a part and get the exposure. So be proactive and tweak things now before the ECNL season begins. Ecnl composite players will not pay the same ecnl team fees if they are getting treated like second class citizens.
