All extracurricular activities (athletics, music, etc.) increase the risk of COVID transmission and have the potential to force schools to go to online education. Each superintendent will have to decide whether he or she is willing to accept that risk. Given that the primary goal of school is classroom education and that 1/4 to 1/3 of students struggle with or absent from online education, the risks posed by extracurricular activities to in-class instruction do not seem acceptable.

Contact your Board of Ed
Regardless of whether you are for or against fall sports for your high school, you can have an impact on that decision by expressing your opinion and concerns to your board of education which ultimately approves whether its high schools enter teams into CIAC.

Look, as someone posted, this gives the kids something to look forward to. Is this really going to happen, probably not. In our Fairfield county town, there are people testing postive this week who were at grad parties, birthday parties etc. last week and they were all held outside. The virus is going to return in a big way once you bring everyone together at school. It's 100% inevitable. Once that happens, we wil go back to distance learning, etc. etc. I predict 2nd week of September. But at least the kids will get to practice from now until then and be with their friends.

COVID-19: Former FDA Chief Who Lives In Fairfield County Warns CT Schools Could Close Again
“I think at this point, many of us hoped that the infection level would be much lower, and we would be heading into the fall with much lower levels of infection,” Gottlieb said.
A new rise in the number of COVID-19 cases in younger people has officials in Connecticut concerned. “We are seeing a trend of younger people beginning to get the virus and we are attributing that partially to their relaxed behavior,” Ridgefield First Selectman Rudy Marconi said.

From this article, it's pretty clear the CIAC plan is just happy talk. They are delaying start to Sept. 24th by which time the virus will be spreading throughout the state. It's not going to work and you have Lamont's senior health advisor saying this:
Meanwhile, at Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont’s press briefing late Thursday, Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, the vice provost for global initiatives at the University of Pennsylvania and a Lamont advisor, said he did not think contact sports should be played at all.
“We recommend, if you look at our risk graphic, that contact sports of any type not be played,” Dr. Emanuel said.

In Ultra-Wealthy Greenwich, Teen Parties Lead to Jump in Virus Cases...
Many of those exposed were seniors who had just finished their final year at two elite private schools....More than 20 people between the ages of 16 and 21 have tested positive for the virus, with more cases expected as testing continues, according to Greenwich health officials.
Keep it together CT parents. We're in the home stretch.
