Granted Albany is devoid of quality clubs but traveling that far is insanity. Parents are such rubes.

You clearly have never played the game if you are giving such advice.

        It is not about money.

His warning about exceptionally low pay (even at the MLS level for the majority of players) has lots of merit though.

The USL Academy league calls for each club to field one team - comprising players between 15 and 19 years old. Presumably some of the U14s will flow up onto this team in the future.

Most of these players don't do it for the money. Heck you have Ivy League graduates joining the NWSL for a pittance. What is motivating them? Certainly not money.

With respect to MLS, each team has 18-20 players on its senior roster, and their minimum rises to $81,375 this year (2020). Each team has up to eight players on its reserve roster, and their minimum goes up from $56,250 last year to $63,547 this season and $85,502 in 2024.

Recent college graduates in the U.S. earned an overall average starting salary of $50,944, according to the Summer 2019 Salary Survey report by the nonprofit National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE).

Signing a pro contract is not easy and most don't make it.

So you hold the coaches teaching your kid with such high regard? Keep paying those fees.

I thought the premise was skipping school to go pro. How does that equate to rich ivy league graduate players? Once again, a sport for the rich .... Which is why a country if our size and wealth doesn't impact international soccer at all.

The point being made is that even Ivy League graduates are playing for the love of the game and not the money.

Doesn't impact international soccer at all? McKennie at Juventus, Pulisic at Chelsea, Reyna at Dortmund, Adams scoring a goal in Champions League semi-final?

Such an easy argument. The top athletes on the guys side simply don’t play soccer in high school. Until that happens we will struggle. And for all the people who get offended and say we have plenty of athletes...we don’t have the top athletes as kids. Until you see the freaks like mike trout and lebron choose soccer we will struggle.

lol those players are the exception to the rule, and their development and circumstances were anything but typical

We have plenty of quality athletes playing teh game. The problem is poor coaching, talent identification and development of high potential players. Pricey pay to play doesn't help either, along with soccer just not being as popular as the top US sports.
