Unproven in what sense? At what level? Compared to Marta? In World Cups? I guess one could very arguably call that accurate if being very, very stingy, and while Leroux may in fact be more marketable, "unproven" is not a very generous characterization for someone who has been the best in our entire area in the recent era, who was US Soccer Young Athlete of the Year (for the entire country), a 2 or 3 time All-American, and already named to multiple full national team squads.
And you don't think it's possible that the league after multiple failures is not only "listening to the players" but also thinking local markets might want to see and support local standouts?
If that includes local talent that is great... But there seems to be a lot of NT talent on other teams and not all in their old home towns.
We got screwed because they though we would go to the games anyway because it is a hot soccer market and the league wanted to develop other ones. Well I am not paying for them to develop Portland.....

Develop Portland???? Portland already had 3x the average attendance of the next closest team.

I was responding to the characterization of the player, which you at least indirectly contributed to with your line " I would rather see a quality product and competitive team than the best of Ma Youth Soccer..." Best of MYSA? Really? You're talking about one of the top 16-18 players in the USA....that was United States Youth Athlete of the Year (not MYSA POY)...and someone who won a Silver or Bronze ball at a World Cup competition (U17 or U20).

Hey, why not Marta, Leroux, Morgan AND Mewis?

Leroux is a better player at this point and is certainly WAY more marketable. The Breakers traded one of the most recognized female athletes in the world. Exactly the type of player that is needed to build a brand and a following. Portland got her for a good player, not a superstar.
Also, Striker vs. Midfield/Defender. Who is more interesting to the target audience?

Rather a shocking display of temper from Lisa De Vanna last night earned her a red card. It sure looked like she told the official "--- you" with her arm twice and then they moved the altercation off camera (or rather the camera didn't move with the "action." Do they send her out to coach the Breakers-Scorpions U-littles?

Lots has been written about this - a few feel DeVanna was wrongly charged with the initial foul but many thought she was obstructing and then was fouled in retaliation with the first foul being called. She obviously lost her temper so that part is not much in dispute.
