For the doubters, theres no thought that the top D2 could beat each D1 EVERY time but they could for the bottom D1s.

most player's on NE 10 teams (starting 11 at least) were also recruited by MAAC and NEC teams, but chose NE 10 for more playing opportunity. NE 10 teams regularly compete against smaller D1 conference teams in spring games. my college team has had D1 transfers come in and sit the bench. although there may be a gap between the 2 divisions, its not a huge one with the NE 10 compared to other D2 conferences.

Plenty of D2 schools would beat D1 schools. Look at the lower teams in MAAC, NEC, America East and a few others.
Howard
Delaware St
Niagara
Manhattan
Holy Cross
Canisius
UMass Lowell
VMI
St. Peter's
Bowling Green
These 10 schools would not win the NE -10. They would probably be in the top 4 but looking at the Northeast D2 schools I think St Rose, Bridgeport, AIC, Adelphi and CW Post would all beat the 10 D1 schools listed above.
