What about it? The parents of the girls will see that Mal Pugh has decided to skip out on UCLA and go pro. She is also going to be making a lot of money from her new minimum contract with US Soccer (somewhere around $200K per year) plus she'll be making much more than that from endorsement contracts. Personally I think she is doing the right thing by going pro. She needs to make the money while she can. If things don't go well or she gets injured, school will always be there and she will have more than enough money to pay for it. Parents and kids are going to see what Mal is doing and have similar thoughts.

The fallacy of the thinking of all of the Little Mias and Little Suzies as well as the parents of the Little Mias and Little Suzies is that only a minuscule fraction of them are anywhere near as good as Mal Pugh. An even smaller percentage will have her endorsement power. The GDA will flop. There are not enough good players in the US, or enough with high potential, to feed the GDA and sustain it. Real kids will continue to play soccer with the end prie being perhaps a scholarship to play D1 or D2 soccer. Those that don't want to play at that level because they don't want to make soccer their life or, perhaps, aren't skilled enough to play at that, will also continue to play. The vast majority will also want to continue on with HS soccer - regardless of how much or how little skill they have.

College placement is a major emphasis in the program. They want players going and playing in college and returning to Thorns at u23. They emphasized in the meeting that GDA was a Pathway to College first and then to the Pros. GDA is the #1 program for girls being put out and supported by US Soccer.

Mal Pugh played high school soccer, BTW.

Another young rising star on the USWNT, Rose Lavelle, also played high school soccer.

Any coach or or organization that is asking an athlete to forgo high school soccer and only play club soccer does not have that athlete's best interests in mind.

        GDA = DOA

Boys DA = DOA? as well

They've been thriving for 10 years.

          Thanks for the laugh.

This isn't ECNL where everyone goes and plays because you are paying $8k a year. This is for top players who will get a lot of play time. Period. If you are not a top player than go to ECNL.
If you're player 7-20/23, Ecnl or local club is the better option. Much more development & playing time. Top 5-6 players can play GDA, Ecnl or local travel team with same results. They will get recruited to same schools regardless. NorCal top clubs chose to stay in ECNl & out of GDA for good reasons. Those NorCal Ecnl players are still going to be recruited long before any girls from Oregon. Of course, they'll get spots left after SoCal fills most rosters.

Another stupid post. GDA for Freshman didn't exist when Pugh or Lavelle were in HS.. this is the program's inaugural year. There are very few high school coaches out there developing anyone. JV might be great for your ECNL daughter but many top players could care less about high school soccer.

Your choice in Oregon is play at your local club & HS Soccer unless your tryout and make the NWSL Portland Thorns GDA.

No club is called 'ECNL' it's merely the name of the league a couple of local clubs choose to pay to play in.

Boys DA is the top flight of US Soccer competitive structure for youth. If that isn't thriving than how about the 'top shelf' for all talent and competition in the USA.

                    Dead Silence.

"Could care less" or "couldn't care less"? Could care less implies that they do care.

ANother stupid post. Time for you to brush up on your JV English.

Here is why this is all happening, girls from the top clubs(not oregon of course) in the country have been playing in only the ECNL for the last few years and this platform has created a USWNT that can't think or compete anymore at the international level.

The bell tolled on this charade and US Soccer is blowing it up.

                                New beginnings.
