We may have a mommy coach, but....

No one is penetrating your kid from behind and covering it up for five decades.

Hey, but they have a successful soccer program.

Here are some names, including the soccer coach....craziest one is the deviant that tried to force his male on male fantasy with the son of a fellow falculty member. It appears no one was safe. Second to Forced butt sex in a pool in Costa Rica and your punishment is a job in the newtown schools.

In the article, an attorney says this:

“The number of people they’ve named is absolutely extraordinary,’’ said MacLeish, a Cambridge attorney. “And it’s a credit to them.” MacLeish said he met with the investigator and “was impressed that they wanted to do this the right way.”

Covering up these things for 5 decades and failing to notify authorities or take any action in most cases is doing things the right way? Only from a lawyer! The axe was probably imminent with outing this and they finally got off their butts to try to save face and keep up the facade of eliteness so as the money trail doesnt dry up.

They're trying to salvage the school at this point. Most likely their deep endowment can help them weather the storm but they have no choice but to at least appear transparent. Any additional cover ups would be the death nail. A lessor school would go under

Very good links within this article about other school scandals and how teachers keep their jobs

Choate will never let this see a jury. The settlement to everyone involved will be massive. Not to mention that more will come out of the wood work.

Appreciate your sentiment about a mommy coach, but there are female abusers. They may be a small fraction of the number of male abusers, but they do exist. If something seems wrong, keep digging until you get an answer.

Coming from the parent of a boy who was involved in an inappropriate relationship with a family friend.

Why would anyone sign up to pay 50k to let their child go to Choate at this point? If they do and something happens, it would be more than any parent would be able to bear. Knowingly sending their child to an environment where there is a deep history of sexual abuse that was for the most part swept under the rug for what? Something the kid could get at any number of private schools in the state. The fact that the school merely dismissed some predators (in some situations at the end of the school year to protect a predators reputation) makes them an enabler. If I had a kid at any school that these guys subsequently went on to teach at after receiving stellar recommendations, I would be reaching into that choate endowment fund too.

They should be refunding tuition to all current students as choate education has a serious stain on it. Also, they should pay out the teachers as well. You know any future employer is going to wonder if the teacher was playing grab azz along with those named.

This should crush the enrollment at a school such as Choate. There is way too much competition in New England and especially CT for this fine of stuff

They've made it very clear the last (supposed) cases were awhile ago. Yes it's a PR nightmare but leave no doubt it's still a highly respected prep school. Other schools have weathered similar scandals and have survived. It's very much about how the school handles it. They swept it under the rug before but now are being very forthcoming. They easily could have kept the report under wraps, which then would have leaked and would have looked much worse. There are actually are PR firms that work on mitigating scandals like this and I'm sure they've hired one.

Beyond the disturbing nature of what happened at Choate is that many of the teachers involved still were teaching elsewhere, much like how the Catholic church would just move trouble priests around. During employment checks prior employers won't say anything for fear of lawsuits. Without criminal charges these guys can often get away with it for years, decades, until it catches up with them
