I know that you've probably lived in an OYSA bubble and with the OYSA/OPL TA/nonTA teams split, you probably don't realize that between the 2-4 ECNL teams that make up a Thorns academy age group team, there are players who will take spots from all but the top 5-10 current academy players on each team. I'm sure you will dismiss this because who could possibly unseat the defending Beaverton cup/Far West/OYSA champs, but it is true. Players 10-25 on those current rosters should be very, very concerned by this news. Hope you didn't burn too many bridges leaving your old clubs.
Why would anyone leave ECNL to play in GDA against rec-level teams like Lamorinda? And, if the ECNL players did move, they would displace ALL current Thorns Academy players. Just the facts.

Actually, ECNL coaches are rolling on the floor laughing. Thorns Academy has, and always will be, a complete joke.

I think the GDA is good for Oregon and the Oregon teams will compete better. Moving forward a large majority of the top teams are staying with ECNL and the current top players just aren't ready for that speed of play, but the GDA will be on par with FWRL and the Thorns DA should be competitor in that structure. No HS will be a deal breaker for most

This will be an unbelievably amazing deal. Coaches will be scouting at state cup games and inviting kids to Thorn practices for ID training before May tryouts.
They will make money off this considering there will be a $1,600 state fee and the travel fee is $2500 not $2000. The travel fee collected will be $2000 from EVERYONE and they will never travel with more than 18 players. In essence they will collect $12,000 from players #19-24 on the roster. ECNL is you pay when you travel

Next year's seniors that played on their HS team that made it at least as far as the qtr finals will be allowed to apply for a waiver to play HS their last year.

Per the GDA site, rosters are supposed to model the boys DA with 32 on each roster. Let's not forget that all players are guaranteed 25% start times.

That's the answer regarding travel. Collect $2000 from EVERY rostered play, have a roster of 32 players and you have now built a travel fund of $64,000 for every team while only 18 will travel

Especially the DOC from THUSC, she is rolling on the floor laughing at the product called Crossfire Utd and has jumped up a tier to the NWSL Portland Thorns GDA staff. BTW, she is/was a former Crossfire Utd club coach whose team participated in the ECNL league format.

The stunned coaches left at Crossfire utd & FC Portland who weren't recruited or tapped for placement in the staff of the NWSL Portland Thorns GDA are pissed and confused.

#1) She was chosen over them
#2) The reality of her decision makes their league choice seem stupid.
#3) Who in their right mind will pay 10-12K to play in their league of choice when the NWSL Portland Thorns GDA only costs $2000 and all travel, transportation and lodging is covered.
#4) All they are left to sell is themselves and the cost of travel to those that don't make the NWSL Portland Thorns GDA.

After they work through those feelings of isolation and desperation they do indeed lay on the floor and the laughter turns to tears.

                            They have been exposed.

All the best 04s in the state will go to GDA. ECNL in Oregon will be dead starting with 2004 group. The player pool 03 group is spread out between FC, Crossfire and GPS with three or or four others in TA clubs. Doubtful anyone would leave those to join the four TA 03 girls except maybe a Crossfire if they liked R Hearns. 00,01,02 - no one will budge from ECNL.
