That isn't out of line for out state tuition at a state school - some have even higher than that. And yes it's a very solid state school with a great sports tradition - not as good as Univ of Mich but certainly better than many other state schools or branches of state schools

You might want to do some research into college costs before your little one is ready to apply to schools. It's heart attack inducing.

yikes that's mega inflation. I went to an out of state school in the early 80's and tuition was just $4k per year!

college tuition in general has gone up at a rate of 2.5 to 3 times the national average inflation rate since the 80's

That will by their books for the first two years now.

That's a bit of an understatement.

                Michigan 2120 SAT average

                Michigan State 1677 SAT average

As far as soccer goes, MSU has been making some deep runs in the NCAA's recently. Meanwhile, Chaka and the Wolverines are struggling to beat anyone.

How can you verbally commit to a D3 school. Commit to apply and go there without any financial aid guarantee?

Yes. While it is not on paper as is the case for D1 and D2, at this point, the coach would have already had the discussion with the player and has told him/her that they will support them through the academic process.
When we went through this, the coaches were up an honest. They would take the HS transcripts, send it up to their liaison in admissions and find out what is needed to get the player in. While certainly not set in stone, a verbal commitment, in our experience, was pretty much set.
That said, for D1 and D2 it isn't set in stone until the Fall transcripts are out.
