    My bet, pure economics.

Sad that in this day and age MLS does not take itself seriously enough
to create a hard core pro pipeline.

Every MLS franchise does have an Academy program. They may be organized differently and certainly some are stronger than others, but they all have an Academy program.

A number of the MLS franchises also enter their Reserve teams in the USL. The Red Bulls won the USL championship last year, with a reserve team that had a number of its Academy grads on the roster.

You do realize every club has a DA program right? Some participants aren't there willingly and put no effort into it (Revs) while others have gone whole hog, even establishing costly residency programs. Almost all are completely free. A big deterrent in doing more is clubs can't make much money off their home growns because of different laws - something out of their control. Virtually any player that really has pro potential gets themselves to a pro club. Non mls clubs isn't where to be.

Technically Toronto FC doesn't have a DA program. They aren't part of the USSF academy system

They do however have a free to play academy program

All other pro sports have incredible feeder programs. What you're saying is US soccer
has a farmers market, patchwork approach.

          What an embarrassment.

No what is means is the US has spent its energy building a first division for soccer. The next big jump will be building a good second and third divisions. That will be the feeder program. There are several really solid second division teams but we do have a lot of work. Of course the second divisions need to pay their pros a liveable wage

DA is working....several of these kids getting picked off by large Euro clubs and also signing pro with MLS, NASL or USL. All MLS teams have academies, some NASL teams as well (Cosmos and North Carolina FC), and USL will eventually launch academies too.

The US Development Academy starts at U12 and the MLS academies are free. Top players are now being offered "free-to-play" opportunities - this is a great advancement from just 10 years ago and I would not consider this an embarrassment.

Pulisic was a DA player before moving to Germany....hope he does well in the US jersey tonight!

Those other pro sports built up over a long period of time, in a different time with less competition for athletes, popularity, sponsorship and ad dollars. International systems also have been built over earlier decades and had virtually no competing factors. Yes the system has a long way to go, but there is real progress. It's not going to happen overnight. It just won't.

other pro sports feeder systems were built before there was a pro system to go to. It was a college game or a youth game and to a large extent still is

Which other country has competition for athletes? It works for our 4 other sports here. Sorry the bUS is not a soccer playing country and you can't make it one. It might help to put more NT games on mainstream stations during primetime and letting people know. It's amazing how quietly international games come and go. Way to stir up a fan base!

What an ugly game to watch last night which reminded me why I don't watch USMT anymore.

Ten years in and that's pretty evident.

Road Hex games are never ever pretty. The US got points last night against one of the strongest defenses in their group. Yes a victory would have been nice. They were missing a lot of players and had to rely on their depth

The men are back on track for qualifying after a disastrous start ... That's all that matters

PS. The pretty game was the 6-0 home game against Honduras

                              Chasing a scholarship is pathetic:

They seem to be the most insane, usually when their little darlings are moving up in the soccer world into higher level programs. Delusions of scholarships start dancing in their heads. Not only is it not realistic for many but the clubs take advantage it.
