It would take a massive culture shift both at the clubs and in the league to make RL a desired choice. Second teams and second leagues are always looked down on and never treated the same as the top.
This was the first year for ECRL in the Northeast. Wait to see what happens when ECRL gets rolled out to the whole country, and the NE adjusts to how ECNL structures it nationally. They will use it as a true pathway and create the proper incentives to get top clubs to join.

Not buying it! You would first have to convince parents that the best choice for their little MIA is a second tier team or league - not happening if ypu know anything about soccer parents. No bragging rights at the water cooler that my little Mia plays on a second team or plays for a second best league - you are fooling yourself.

No second rate team or league will ever be viewed as desirable. PERIOD!

Let's have the ECRL teams from PDA, WC, SUSA and EM at the 2006 or 2005 teams play against STA and we will see if your statement is true. STA would know better than to show up.

So what it doesn’t change the fact that people do not view a second rate team or league as desirable- and they never will no matter how good the ECNL spin machine is. You clearly don’t understand soccer parents.

but there aren't enough spots on A teams for everyone, even if everyone is equally talented. so SOME KIDS WILL END UP ON A SECOND RATE TEAM. it's unavoidable. the question is, where? PDA second team? or CSA/STA GAL team?

From what I can see it is their second level teams “academy level” that will be in the RL - the first one “showcase teams”. Remain in GAL.

Second tier league gets the second tier team.

Work on your reading comprehension. It says “All in” on ECNL.

I think what will end up happening with clubs that offer GAL & ECRL, is neither will be the "A" team of top team-those willing to forego HS will play GAL, those not willing to give up HS will play ECRL. It'll be like GDA year 1, except a notch or 2 lower in quality.

If the goal is to get into ECNL, sending their 2nd team to ECRL will not cut it. They will need to win their ECRL divisions in order to move up to ECNL the next year. As bad as some ECRL teams are, for the most part they are better than other clubs' second teams, and there are some that are competitive with many clubs' first teams.

That is certainly true but the local elite clubs know the competition within the area and if they view the RL league to be inferior within their conference, they will not subject their showcase team to constant inferior competition for the whole year. Imagine playing inferior competition for the whole year and then having to quickly turn on a switch to prove yourself that you are worthy to play in the ECNL national .Imagine a team like NEFc playing their best team in the RL all year. If the RL league is strong, they would consider, if not, then they will put their stronger team some place else.

Don't doubt it, just posting what my D's coach relayed to us. I'm sure teams of different levels, different conference, etc. are all going to respond differently.

Think the point of ECRL is to prove you belong. If your club is dominating ECRL then it moves to ECNL.

If NEFC, Oakwood, etc all sent their 1st team to ECRL, that would be a pretty great proving ground for them to get to ECNL.
