(Or are the Thorns not interested, and this is an attempt to find a gig somewhere else in NWSL?)

If the former, what's the point in having an academy if you have no rights to the prospects you train?

Thorns aren't interested. Parsons told her to stay in college.

So let me get this straight. She has declared for the draft, never played in a college game, never been to a USWNT Camp (going to a u17 training center at age 16 is not the same) and her only experience is with the laughable Thorns Academy

Are her parents clueless? Do they know how little a women’s professional soccer earn.

She's eighteen, so responsible for her own choices. Don't blame this on mom and dad.

That said, if she can't crack the roster at a bottom-feeder program like Oregon, and was cut loose by the hometown academy, I can't imagine she will interest any NWSL teams.

New Oregon coach is former national team GK coach. She would have been better off staying at Oregon and working with him. Someone is giving that young lady some terrible advice.

                Why not?

If she isn't going to play for the Ducks why not turn pro ?

She is delusional if she thinks she can play in the pro. Again, a 5’6” player that has NEVER been to a USWNT team camp, Thorns don’t want her, wasn’t good enough to play for the Ducks and she and/or parents think she play professionally. This kid is getting awful advice from someone

I blame the GDA system and their manipulation of national team callups in an attempt to drive ecnl out of business. This girl got a callup in a meaningless pair of games against Jamaica. The national team never had any intention of giving her a serious look, the keepers they wanted were unavailable for the Jamaica games, and she was called up so Thorns GDA and GDA in general could tout having a player called up. Unfortunately she and her parents didn’t realize she was being used to further an agenda in the GDA/ecnl turf war, and they saw her callup as proof she didn’t need college and could go straight to pros. It’s really a shame and the adults who manipulated this kid should be ashamed of themselves if they had any sense of morality whatsoever.

She did attend one national team camp but she also probably knew that the goalie coming in this fall has attended many, is a high school all American, is a United Soccer Coaches youth club all American. Even if she had played last year, she may have lost the job for the next 3 years. It is too bad because having depth in the PAC 12 is critical.

How is an invite to a camp different than a call-up? Seems like either would be a huge accomplishment. The downside to her situation is if soccer doesn’t work out she will have missed out in playing college soccer and perhaps earning a sizable scholarship.

Not suggesting anything different. It was a great accomplishment but for someone looking to go pro out of DA, a single call up and no other invite seems to mean that this is a huge challenge.

Are you aware of what she would most likely earn? Min salary is $20,000. If any parent or an adult advises their child to forgo a college education for a chance to earn $20,000 should have their head examined

                              Pay for College

That 20K could pay for college
