The ugly truth about playing college soccer

    https://www.theictzone.com/l/college...he-ugly-truth/

Having a son who played college soccer and quit his 2nd year and a daughter who hopes to, this article exposes the ugly side about college soccer every hs (college-hopeful) player should educate themselves about.

The article lays out why walking on is a terrible idea. Most walk ons are a team’s practice squad. Instead, go to the best academic school you can be admitted to and pay for and on the club team. You’ll play a ton more minutes and your college experience will be way more fun and meaningful.

Agreed with the walkons - if you even make it the chances you'll ever become a starter are almost non existent. But that's also true if you're player #15-30. You'll still have to put in all the same effort as the starters. Some kids are totally fine with that. Just bein gon the team is enough. Others either won't be to handle not playing (after years of being studs) and either quit or transfer.

Tell your kids to quit if you think they can’t handle it.

Talk about mailing it in. What a waste of words that article was.

Why not call it “Club Soccer and the Ugly Truth?”

I can’t believe coaches play favorites. How dare they not play everyone. Why shouldn’t a walk-on get 60-70 minutes per match. It’s so ugly.

Rubbish through and through from that would be blogger.

Many parents are just as naive as the players

This is so silly. If a kid is trying to walk on he or she knows the deal. He or she knows they didn't pick the school for the purpose of playing soccer. And they actually are capable of deciding what they want to do instead of absurd, arm-chair posters on TS with an axe to grind.

How is this any different from what goes on with your supposed “high level” D3 players? This is exactly the same story that gets played out with most of them, why aren’t the parents pointing their fingers at the club soccer industry that pushed them to that “ugly truth” instead of pointing them at the college coaches?

Exactly the same story in what way? D3s have occasional walk-ons too, and they know their chances of playing are slim too.

That was the point except that basically everyone at that level is a walk-on save for the 1-2 kids who get tips. Why don’t we see articles about the ugly truth of D3 soccer posted here then?

Oh here we go again - Mr. you don't need club soccer for D3. Should have know this was another planted piece by you know who.

You're embarrassing yourself, BTNT. There is no correlation in the way you suggest. Most better D3s rarely take walk-ons, and the players recruited to play there who make up 95-100% of the roster have zero in common with actual walk-ons. We can't even call this one a nice try for you. Enjoy your Sunday and maybe take the rest of day off.

You should go and read the beginning of the Holyoke thread before it got crazy. Please tell us all again that folks need a whole lot of club soccer to get a very good education and play some soccer at that level. Folks here like to make a big deal about the level in general when in reality they are taking about the 2-3 schools that their kids went. Holyoke is far more consistent with what the soccer is at 300+ programs in D3 actually are as opposed to those 2-3 programs those folks want to pretend are so much like D1 programs.

Fake new again, BTNT. Just 2-3 programs? Try 50-75. Mt Holyoke is NOT the typical D3 soccer experience....just like MCLA isn't.

Funny thing about that Holyoke thread is it proves that there really isn’t anything to talk about when it comes to D3 soccer. You get about 1 page of soccer stuff and then it quickly turns to social and political talks laced with personal insults,
