Sucks for all of the kids that want to play high school ball. Guess you have to suck it up and drive even farther or pick the least worse. Why don’t ECNL step in and do something or bring in another ECNL club?

Who would they add in this region that would lift the competition?

Or should have let PennFusion keep their ECNL badge.

Did PennFusion lose it or did they leave for DA since it has an easier pathway for national team?

Nobody directly into ECNL. Clubs who want to play ECNL now have to do ECNLRL first and earn their way in.

Penn Fusion left on their own for DA. They wanted to merge with Delco to form DA and ECNL teams out of both clubs player pools but the ECNL said no to that because the ECNL would have been the lesser of the two teams.

ECNL is going to be a very different league in 2-3 years. USSF has pretty much excluded ECNL players from the YNT teams and pools. Top players will see this and realize HS for the crap it is. The next tier player will follow. Leaving ECNL and HS with the leftovers. This is great for HS teams but very bad for ECNL.

Penn Fusion left on their own for DA. They wanted to merge with Delco to form DA and ECNL teams out of both clubs player pools but the ECNL said no to that because the ECNL would have been the lesser of the two teams.

Dont you mean very bad for women's soccer? USSF has zero clue about anything and now has their site set on ruining the women's side .... With their vast ineptitude, I wonder how long it will take them before they can make the women's side not qualify for the WC. Are they bad enough that they can do it by the end of the 2020s? Agreed USSF soccer has zero pulse on what the paying customers actually want and desire, it’s ridiculous to form the whole program on what’s best for the national team - when only .5% of players if that will ever play for the national team. They screwed up the age cutoffs, they screwed up not allowing high school for DA - all in all a terrible organization.

High school ball may be crap - but many many kids love playing for their school with their classmates - it is a source of pride, there is much team bonding, camaraderie, pasta parties - many great memories are made. And for those that don’t play in college the high school sport team is culmination of their athletic endeavors, and the only chance they get to be part of a school team.

And the birth year mandate is even dumber - try to tell your 6 year old they can’t play with their best friend who is in their class but can’t be on the soccer team because of birth year - dumbest decision ever. No thought went into what is best for the kids.

It's almost like US Soccer said screw what has worked in other countries for 100yrs. We can do it better and make more money doing it.

As another poster explained, PennFusion was being squeezed by ECNL in order to keep the ECNL badge. Several other clubs suffered a similar fate. They were not allowed to have both like PDA and Stars. ECNL said choose. PennFusion chose GDA.
Had they let PennFusion keep both, there would have been another ECNL option from a quality club that focuses on development. Their preacademy teams could have filled that dance card.

Morale is ECNL sucks too; unless your DOC is on the Board. Then you can do whatever suits your club and make up the rules as it is your show.
This is another reason GDA came about. Those in charge were elevating their club kids worthy or not.

If Penn Fusion had stayed they would have given bucks and delco some real competition- and maybe bucks and delco wouldn’t have fallen so far. Now the kids that want to play high school do not have a good option.

So the question is, how many kids and parents want to deal with DA and a league built for the very few? ECNL is a path to college, GDA is a path to NT. Right now, not many kids in the Northeast in the NT pool. The boys non-MLS DA is fading and now you have a watered down boys ECNL, USYS and DA. The same will happen with GDA.

yeahhhh that is not at all why GDA came to be. GDA didn't come out of anything the ECNL did wrong, it came from pressure from the women's nt staff about boys having DA and girls not having it.

US Soccer wanted the money and the power of being in control. They had a chance to work with ECNL but decided to do it themselves. They made this mess by trying to pull top clubs and then when that didn't work bringing in lesser ones. On top of that they have been favoring their own players over more talented ones for National Teams and it's hurting everything.

Because having a DA tag is stopping those clubs from doing it still? SJEB Rush has a parent coach. Paid coaches will always favor parents kids who can drive in paying parents. Ive seen younger aged players get more playing time over better of age players because daddy happens to be president on a large township soccer board who drives a good number of player into the club. They look for bigger, hyper aggressive players regardless of talent or ability. Most of these "academies" are in it for the money. If they happen to help a few players, all the better.

Don't forget the torn ACL's and ruptured Achilles add to the awesome HS experience. I can't think of a better way to build team chemistry than signing a het well card

It's been researched and studied. The chances of tearing an ACL or rupturing an Achilies is 10x more likely to happen to a girl who plays HS and Ckub than a girl who just does one of the two. Sorry for the facts but overuse injuries are real sweetie.
