We've been to both Silverlake and Surf. For a couple years now. Silverlakes will likely overtake surf in the coming years as "the" tourney. If they keep running it the way they have. Great facility, great teams come, and it's run really (really) well.

Our family has been to both, Silverlakes the last two summers. The weather is MISERABLE. Like nothing our NW girls have experienced. HOT HOT HOT. Have you experienced a full 80 min game in 110+ degree heat?

Yes. Part of the game if you're going to travel. You think that's bad? Try Denver in summer. Girls almost hyperventilating during warm ups! What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

Last summer several D3 coaches promised to watch my then rising-sophomore at Sliverlakes, but then several wrote afterwards to say they were trying to cover Surf and Silverlakes at the same time and so never made it to Silverlakes after all. I suspect heat is a factor...or those coaches may have been focusing on older players, but no denying the weather is more pleasant at Oceanside

Not very many (college coaches) were at Silverlakes, but I did see a couple. I had one comment that he thought it was torture to have kids playing out in this heat! And yes, the heat is dangerous. I witnessed a couple kids over the weekend vomiting, Im guessing as an early indicator of heat exhaustion. If you go, pray to the soccer Gods for an 8am kick off!!

Are you the same person writing multiple posts against Silverlakes? Surf employee or staff at club who send all teams to Surf? What's the point of these posts? No parent gets to decide where team goes in summer....

Because this isn't true. Over 80 coaches came to the games in Silverlakes last year on Friday alone. Our team had 20 coaches watching. Game 2 had the same, and game three maybe 8. Total coaches in the tournament over three days was over 100.

Surf doesn't start till sat. So on Friday, almost every coach will be at Silverlakes, most of them unregistered, because is a free day for them. Silverlakes also has better catering for the coaches and indoor facilities for getting food and general socializing. Day two, coaches split duties with their assistants. Day 3, the only coaches at silverlakes will be the ones you have invited to watch you, as Surf will be in full swing. If the schools you are looking at are not attending, or not coming to watch you may need to expand our school list.

Also, you have to invite the coaches. Coaches just don't wander around, if your player has generated genuine interest, then they will be seen by a coach, or a scout. For ECNL, this is just a precursor to future viewings, as College coaches will also be going to the ENCL events to watch. On average coaches need to see you three times (assistant first, then the recruiting coach then the head coach.) So silver lakes or surf is just one out of the four scouting events you get to go to. If this is the only event that coaches can see you, you have to let them know.

D3's schools...thats great if your player has them interested. Be aware that most D3's have no official roster limit enforced by the NCAA. If your kid can get into the school, they can play on the team provided the coach really likes them. Not being seen at a single event is not really a deal breaker, though I've found that if the head coach wasn't there, the assistant was. The head coach can see your player at their ID camp as the final decision is made.

Hot, yes. Hydration starts the week before, so prepare for it. The players also get water breaks every 20 minutes but the heat can get to them. If your not getting water breaks then demand it.

The ones we know are doing Surf due to better weather and more college coaches. 105 degree soccer games aren’t best way to show talents even if the coaches show up.

I would love to see this list of 80 coaches at a Silverlake game. I didn't see 80 coaches the entire weekend. The one positive for Silverlake is the onsite restaurant/bar - kudos to that for sure! They also have coach only golf carts that come to the games to bring hydration and refreshments for coaches only. If you are a coach, I could see how you would be in favor of this tourney. This location would be awesome for a winter tournament.
