    Official Exits from GDA

    Following Crossfire and Eastside (technically not in GDA, but a partner of Reign) in our neck of the woods, NYCFC is now All-in ECNL: https://www.nycfc.com/post/2019/03/1...-girls-academy

    I think they should have one big double elimination tournament with the top 30 clubs from each league. A huge brawl. The league that performs the best, stays. The other closes up shop and donates their pennies and soccer balls to goodwill. Winner stays.

      That would be awesome! Unfortunately very little in US Soccer gets solved on the field - always a new back office deal, a new league to resolve things.

        Two more elite options in the metro area is the rumor. Then you will have the top 15 players at each age level spread ALL over. Messier than ever.

          Runour is ECNL will announce high school
          Graduation year teams for next year so all the 8th and 9th graders and all the juniors and seniors can have their own full teams. Sophomores too of course! Yay for the players and college recruiting and simply having teams to play on. This best option for players will become the strongest very quickly.

            ECNL = college track
            OYSA travel team = college track
            Thorns = pro track

            Trying to bash thorns for not getting college placements is ridiculous. They aren't in this for that. The goal is to get girls on the bench for the big girl team. And possible get a paycheck.

              HAHAHAHA! You've got to be kidding me about the paycheck thing. The My 17 year old son's income from his part time job and summer work is equivalent to the NWSL median salary. If that's what the goal is for those girls in GDA, their parents are doing a piss poor job in giving them guidance.

                The goal is Pro of course or Nat team, but if that doesn't happen they our the 1st choices of D1 colleges. Sometimes a knife has two sides an added benefit to carve fools like you.

                  Rich girls don’t care about a paycheck! It’s all about bragging on social media. Look at the latest pro 13 year old that the Thorns and Nike are signing and pushing hard in the media. Super wealthy girl whose father has bought her media blitz fame. Bad timing for Thorns and Nike considering the current scandal of wealthy parents buying admittance and “roster spots” for their kids. The actress’s kid is also a you tube star just like the new Thorns/Nike kid.... Just another dream bought for another rich girl. Sad.

                    Even if you just get paid $22,000 per year for being a pro soccer player that is still better than going to college. If you get a second job a bar or Walgreens you can make it work.

                      Except last year when thorns recruited a bunch of jesuit players and let them play high school, the college placement over the past four years has not been good.

                        If you work at the burrito place over near PSU you can earn tips which can give you money to put gas in your car or buy something nice like a heating pad.

                            One of the exceptions to the GDA/DA "no high school" rule is players who are recruited to a private school for the purpose of playing sports.

                            That such an exemption might be granted in this case is probably more damning to Jesuit U. than it is to the Thorns.

                            OSAA should just boot them out and be done with it. Kids who attend private school should either compete in a separate league for private schools, or play for the public school whose attendance area they live in (the same way magnet schools are often treated for sports). After all, the parents pay taxes to the public school district regardless, so the kids ought to have the right to play sports there, even if they go elsewhere for education (or are home schooled).

                              If you make $22k playing for the NWSL thorns and work full time at the burrito place you could get another $16,000 per year. Add in $400 per year of tips and you are gold. $38,400 per year is not bad at all.
