Coaches shop players not teams. However, when pressed for time at a showcase they tend to favor players in the higher brackets first. It means you play on a quality team
Not true at all. College coaches could care less about the scores of games or where a team is as a whole in a division. They do know that these teams play in the most competitive youth league in the world and the players they are evaluating are up against very tough competition week in and week out. They know this is the closest competition to the college game as they will get to see during the evaluations of prospective players is in GDA. Game speed, player speed, physicality, and mentality are all being evaluated at the highest level possible for these GDA players. Coaches know that they will never see the true ability of a player until they play against college competition, but GDA is the next closest thing. ECNL is next and many very good players are found at that level. Below that level of competition, coaches are just sticking their necks out as players are being evaluated against the least competition where the speed of play is like a casual college warm up at a practice.

My point was within a showcase, not the overall soccer landscape. Also, the competition within GDA is not tough week in and week out. Lots of deadwood in DA and ECNL. Since GDA is 6 months old how much do you really think it has improved considering it's the same players, coaches and clubs as before?

The top players in the country play GDA. The competition is stronger.

Playing in the GDA for this season.. just like any league.. it definitely has it's top half and bottom half.. and it varies between years within a club.... but there are definitely some solid ECNL clubs that would crush the bottom half of the DA clubs in our year !!

Ecnl is the obvious 2nd tiercat top.

Da has 7 conferences,The top 2 teams from each
.That is a total of 14 teams would beat down The Top Ecnl teams...Just look at Rosters and Clubs easy...

Genius .. The top DA teams would beat ECNL .. did you have to put a lot of research into that one?? Obviously there’s no argument that DA has top quality teams .. The point is the top few ECNL teams would probably crash half of the DA teams at the bottom of at their conference at their age level. People shouldn’t be disillusioned that DA is the end-all be-all.

Families also need to know that college coaches are shopping both leagues for talent. GDA can't even begin to fill all the roster spots out there. Coaches know many talented players stayed in ECNL, either because they don't have a quality GDA club near them or other reasons. Over time GDA may become the preferred venue for "top" program coaches but that leaves plenty of opportunities for mid to lower level D1, D2 and D3. Figure out where your player fits in the landscape and what their goals are, then find the club with the best coaching within a reasonable distance from your home. Don't worry so much about the badge.

It already is the preferred vendor.

Not everywhere and not by all coaches. Coaches shop for talent, not badges. Skilled players still have many opportunities. Don't buy into the hype. If your DA club isn't very good (and there are many that aren't) don't go there just because of the badge.

Go where you are going to play. If you want to go to a "top" program and ride the pine for 4 years (but you can say you "played" at FSU or UNC), then go ahead. If you want to go to a mid or lower level D1 school where you can actually get playing time, go there. If you prefer D2 or D3 where you know you can get significant time, go there. Let's be clear. There are a select few athletes who will go to the top D1 schools and actually log significant playing time. Hell, there are DA boys who are at top D1 schools who barely saw the field (if at all) because they chose those top schools and compete against foreign players who are just better. Go where your experience to play will actually consist of playing -- not just watercooler talk that you went there.

op here and totally agree. Families need to have some heart felt discussions about their kids' goals and how realistic they are. What kid doesn't initially fantasize out being on a top D1 team? Then reality hits, often times too late. If you're not skilled enough or aiming for a top 50 program you have a lot of options out there and they don't require DA, boys or girls. Find the club with the best fit for your goals and best coaching. It won't always be the top league, whatever that is.

Couldn't have said it better !! Sometimes "families" chase the dream of playing "the highest level soccer" without having those discussions of exactly WHERE these children are trying to get to or what THEIR goals are..

Add to that thought: if you're in FL and want one of the better programs, then your kid better be a national level talent. That will apply to almost no one here. Either broaden your horizons outside the state or temper expectations and get the email for the club soccer point person.
