you're going to let a club say your kid can't play? please…

If it's CJSA and you can't get a player pass for the new club (because the old one won't release him/her) then your kid won't play. Not sure about other leagues but I imagine it would be similar since they all need passes. If a parent is persistent it usually can get resolved. Sometimes clubs just want to be a pain in the azz - or they're just lazy/incompetent

Agreed. Do your homework BEFORE you sign the Contract. If they are delivering what they promised, you have to finish the year .... even for a training spot.

no no no no no. as a consumer you don't have to do anything. this fear-mongering is deceitful. clubs do not have the right to force a player to stay. they never have and they never will.

Go away. No club owns a youth player. They can delay/stall the transfer but that's about it. Cjsa isn't going to allow a self serving club owner to stop a kid from playing.

This thing is getting overblown. No club is going to fight the transfer of a kid who never played a game for the club

Some parents are so dumb...... Even when you shine the light they close their eyes......

If the club wants to remain in good standing with USYSA, CJSA or USCS they will release a player promptly upon request without any mention of fees or any other contingency. The club does not have a leg to stand on. If you signed a service contract with the club they can potentially sue you in small claims court to get the rest of the payment but if they try to withhold a player pass then they have just created their own liability which is much larger than a club fee. That one wouldn't be in small claims but in big boy court. No club wants anything to do with that but some are willing to make a bet on parental ignorance. Once you let them know that you know where you (and they) stand they will back down quick.

CJSA instituted another money grab fundraiser recently. It's in one of the board meeting minutes on the CJSA site. The parents of any player who switches clubs mid-season (ie between the Fall and Spring) must $20 kickback....I mean penalty, to CJSA to be released.

Said a club owner. Good luck trying to get that one to stick. As another said, a club won't risk their reputation by holding back a player. It isn't worth for what at this point would be 1/3 of the fees at most (since you all front load your fees).

In fairness to CJSA they do have to do some paperwork for the change and issue a new pass. You can argue if that's worth $20 or not. But you can argue about fee charged for the privilege to tryout for ODP also.

Also, if you have any doubts at all about your kids future with a club, pay by season (Fall, Winter, Spring) rather than paying for the full soccer year up front to get a discount. Once you pay upfront, you aren't getting your money back. It may cost you more if you do stay, but is you want to jump before Spring, it'll save you money to pay in installments.

Actually the club is the one who has to do the new pass. All CJSA has to do is approve it in the roster change in the registration system. I believe the whole thing is on-line now. No paperwork. I guess CJSA secretaries' salaries have gone up.

                              News flash:

Nobody plays in CJSA run leagues anymore. Those concerned with how CJSA handles transfers don't know the landscape.

Wrong. If a player owes money, their current club can stop the transfer. One high profile CT club is notorious for holding their players hostage for services not yet rendered.
