Your daughter should remain in her training position until the end of the spring and please make sure you are paid in full. After that, you must give the club the first right of refusal. We can squeeze in a 21st player on the roster and everything will be fine. She's developing well here.

Why would you need to tell someone not to burn their bridges on the way out? That likely never even would have crossed their mind.

I think you got some reasonable advice here but you should know that club coaches are all over this board. By spelling out the particulars you are no longer sneaking up on anyone. This board can be helpful to understand the soccer landscape but try to avoid using this way if you change clubs.

Here's the deal, your daughter is almost certainly on a cjsa roster at her current club even though she's a training player. Clubs at u12 and under can use what's called a developmental roster which allows a larger number of players. They would include your daughter for insurance purposes. You'll need to get a release from the current club, which her being a training player they arent likely to object. You may be on the hook for the rest of your financial obligation. If handled properly that might be able to be worked out.

It sounds like a better opportunity for your child. Good luck

Some people can just be jerks and like leaving scorched earth. From the tone of the OP's post it doesn't sound likely - and if it's explained as it simply is all should be fine. But it's easy to leave on bad terms, especially if a bill hasn't been paid. In a small state it's easy enough to run into coaches, managers, owners, not far down the road.

I don't know if the same is true for training players but on my kid's club, they wont give a rostered player a waiver to roster somewhere else unless you have paid your fees in full.

You do not need a waiver to roster anywhere else. You can even stiff your current club for the fees and it doesn't matter. The club has no say and no leverage whatsoever. The power is solely on the hands of the parents. You say release from the roster, they release. Period.

If you signed a contract with your current club you must meet all their financial commitments before they release your player pass to another club

Provided that club has fulfilled their side of the "contract". Do these clubs really get involved in enforcing the "contract" or do they just wish the player well and move on?

You don't need to be paid in full. You do need to be current and CJSA will approve the request. The forms are on the CJSA website.

Thanks for the misinformation, Mr. Owner. No, you have no say in the matter. Player asks for release, you release. No questions asked. Bill payed? Doesn't matter. Unless you would like to find yourself in bad standing with CJSA, USYS and/or USCS. Player requests release, you release. Period.

That may be able to get you released from a club, but it does not undo any financial obligations that you agreed to in the form of the contract that you likely signed that stipulated that they would train and clothe your child in return for money. While you may opt out, you may not walk away from your debt until they agree to forgive it or you pony up the remaining balance.

There is no such thing as "current" and it doesn't matter anyway. The club holds no cards when it comes to roster release. They get a reasonable amount of time to do it - it doesn't need to be the club's #1 administrative priority - but after a few days if the release hasn't been made you can start barking.

That's a matter for small claims court. Something no club would ever pursue.

The dude said his kid was a training player. Who in their right mind would sign a contract to be a training player. What would the contract read. We agree not to play your daughter in a game, no need to buy a kit. We will take your money and allow her to come to the teams practices which are basically 100 percent upside for our club since we are not adding any new coach to work with her, not contracting any new space for her to practice and not obtaining any new practice equipment (pinny or cones) specifically because she is now training with us.
