MV elects to play in a higher classification than what they should be playing in so give them some credit. SJ should do the same unless but I suspect their coach is more interested in winning more state championships against inferior competition.

They should not be allowed to compete for a state title just like IMG. Every other school has to follow specific rules and regulations, but they do not.

It is a “sports school”. Have you ever played them? 80% of their roster is international- they live on campus and practice and sport is first- school second. How is that the same as a public HS? If you can recruit - you shouldn’t play for state titles.

          Exactly.

IMG plays 10 games a season all around the country...they do not get to participate in the state tournament series and they are not districted for this same reason.

FHSAA needs to have a vote on this for the 2020 school year.

Okay they have 5th and 6th graders. That must be why they can beat schools with 2000+ students 9-12. Can't believe I didn't realize that was the reason and not recruiting. I changed my mind. Private schools should compete with public schools on basis of student population.

Seems stupid to me.
That doesn't make any sense. ECNL in Florida does not play regular season games during HS season. None are scheduled. Not this year. Not last year. Not the year before. The only thing ECNL does during high school season is showcases and they are almost always on a three day weekend. Most HSs play their games during the week.

So you're referring to less than a handful of players- and likely not at the same club or HS. Really think you're grasping.

SJCD does not recruit. Did it ever occur to you that there's some pretty good club players in the area that flock to SJCD because of their reputation?

Okay, you are still missing the point. Whether it is recruiting in traditional sense or some kind of spontaneous self-directed choosing as you say, it is only something that can occur with a private school. The intent is not to take anything away from their success or imply there is something nefarious about it. It just does not make sense for private schools to compete for state championships against public schools with playoff classification based on enrollment. For a public school enrollment is huge in determining how good the athletic teams will be. For private schools it has absolutely no bearing. You are apparently incapable of being honest & objective about it because of your pride in their on field accomplishments, but it is undeniable to an honest and objective person. A public school with 90 HS age girls could probably not even field a soccer team, and if they did it would be indistinguishable from rec soccer. Again it is not intended to hurt your pride, just a fact of the matter. Have the private schools play each other for a private school championship. SJCD would have great playoff games against Bolles, Bishop Moore, Monte Verde, and Archbishop McCarthy. They could continue to schedule competitive regular season games against the big 3A-5A public schools, and all would be great (except you would win state a little less frequently). I will say 1A is a little different than 2A & 3A in that there are very few public 1A schools. The real unfairness is in 2A & 3A where there are many public schools and a preponderance of private schools going far in the play-offs due to their ability to attract students specifically for soccer. It still would make much more sense for SJCD to play similarly sports focused schools like Bolles, Monte verde, and American Heritage come playoff time, than it would to beat up on the many 1A private schools not focusing on athletics. Great school and great program. Just be a little more honest with yourself.

High School Soccer is the absolute worst thing for any player who aspires to play in college or beyond in.

There is a ton of truth to this. I'm not being sour grapes but our daughter's public school team made a deep run in the H.S. playoffs only to meet St. Thomas Aguinas in the Finals. That STA team was stacked with 5 seniors that would graduate and go on to Power 5 conference colleges as well as a slew of ECNL players that were committed. To put it in perspective, that STA H.S. team flew to California over Christmas break to play in a club showcase and beat some of the best club teams in California! Very hard for a public H.S. to keep up with that.

Amazing right? Who knew there were so many high-level Catholic athletes in the Fort Lauderdale area?

Only DA players are supposed get waivers to play high school. Hard to compete with Montvedre and Saint Johns Country Day too. What is this world coming to?
