That's why we are suckers for personal trainer's and crappy ran clubs. US Soccer are as bad as FIFA. They sell total BS to a population that does not understand soccer. Soccer people want to do this as a full time job. To do this at grass roots level you have to charge a ridiculous amount of money. Broken system America!
Somewhere someone brought up a great point that no other sport requires giving up high school athletics to become the best. If USSF feels that's necessary then require it of the top 2% and put them in an academic residency program so they train with the nations top talent and build team spirit. Why make everyone else miserable?

Also the other big sports have better college coaching (especially football and basketball) and baseball has the minor leagues to further develop young talent until players are ready for the big show. We need to change it up for the 18-22 year old players. I doubt college coaching will change much so give them money to attend college sometime later on. Then they can focus on the game like all other top players their age around the world

They have zero reason to change what they're selling when we all keep eagerly buying what we have now

Lets face it. Jill Ellis was out coached. Sweden had a game plan. It was apparent from the start of the game and Jill Ellis had no plan B. She is a poor coach that has been winning with better athletes. When it comes to tactics she is poor. In the World Cup she was poor but got away with it because some very athletic players and great games. She has kept a GK that has routinely misbehaved and embarrassed the program. If she was a Man people would be screaming if he was kept on the team after domestic violence charges. Now she has had an terrible tournament and shot her mouth off again and embarrassed the program. She should dropped and never pull on a US jersey again. However Jill Ellis is does not have the strength of character to make the move. The Women's National team is not Elite. They are good very athletically talented but the coaching staff over the last couple of years has allowed other nations to surpass us tactically. So, when a nation has a good group of athletes and tactically better they will beat the US and it will start happening more often

Encouraged to withdraw from HS participation sports and join elite club: Gymnasts, Swimmers, Badminton, Bowling, Water Polo, Racquetball, Tennis, Ice Hockey, Lax (club sport, for all Oregon HS). Just to name a few. Only the most elite Boys in Soccer are selected for a US Development Team connected with a MLS Pro team, which makes sense as they (MLS Team) are trying to develop future pros. Not unlike 15 year Ice Hockey players who play junior hockey on a farm team.

Basketball on the Men's side requires the kids to make a pit stop at college for just one season (one and done) before they can go Pro. Baseball has no such requirement. American Football (NFL) requires 3 years after HS Graduation before they can be cleared for permanent Brain Damage eligibility. Every major college Athletic Department in the country is bankrolled by the TV revenues from Basketball & American Football-that's why the kids must go to college in those sports.

Mens Soccer in college has become marginalized as a feeder to the Pros with the advent of PDL, USL-2 and the MLS Clubs USDA teams. Since 2010 the MLS Draft has become less and less relevant, frankly it's laughable in the present day. Whereas the MLB, NFL & MLB draft are the preferred entry into the Pros and Paydays.

We have outstanding female athletes who play Soccer in the US. We have Title IX that gives these girls athletic scholarships at an unprecedented clip, one that the Boys Soccer could only dream about. Due to this, league models like the ECNL and the upcoming GDA thrive as they cater to the college coaches who don't want to do the legwork of scouting local club tourneys, HS Games and Instead they can enjoy sitting on the beach in San Diego and having the parents pay to have thousands of dollars on travel just so they can be served a meal where they can view the 6-10 players they are recruiting for their program. COACHES LOVE YOU PARENTS!

Title 9 has created this mess. If it were not for the mandated girls scholarships there would be no GDA, no ENCL. the only thing that props them up is the quest for scholarship, and thrill for parents to say little suzie plays college ball. ECNL has gotten rich because of title 9, and its reverse descrimination. And yet somehow, it's not working to develop.

Meanwhile boys DA has contributed little to the male side of soccer. Kids give up high school only to find international players taking many of the better roster spots. If DA were such a great training ground that wouldn't be happening. On the girls side everyone thinks the path to college soccer is paved with gold so you've got the ECNL and now DA feeding frenzy - and it also probably won't so much for womens soccer either

How is it discrimination when all it does is make the opportunities equal?

So is your point that if the men keep at it maybe we qualify for the Olympics next time around?
Also don't think the presents of youth on a National team is a new thing,,, The DA isn't bad, but either was our previous system. The bad part is US Soccer. It needs an overhaul. It's an old boys club with stagnant results. To many cowardly lions gripping the past.

How is it equal that in soccer, women get 14 scholarships and men get 10? How is it equal that there are 2x as many women's college soccer programs, when men draw in more income? A talented male soccer player has much less opportunity due to Title 9... Even though it is a bigger draw. Luckily, my boy plays basketball.

                              Reverse discrimination, by definition.

How is it equal that there are zero women's football scholarships? Do do understand how it works, right?
