If you want to follow that logic then all D3 athletes would fall into the same bucket, is that really what you want to say?

If parents are "feeding the frenzy" of club soccer they're doing it because it many cases it's very much a necessity. Oh, and their kids love it, parents enjoy supporting them and by and large can afford it.

It’s the super competitive ISL type parents that push this false agenda that kids need to be playing at the highest club levels to make an impact at the D3 level. Those types tend to talk about how important academics are and then functionally make soccer a higher priority. Perhaps if their kids spent more time on their school work and less time on their soccer they might actually been able to get into an Ivy.

Just playing HS or travel level can happen but not often and certainly not at any of the stronger D3 programs. Even then they will tend to be really good multipsport athletes, not anyone who played rec until 5th grade and decided to "give it a go" again.

I am so tired of PMAN flooding threads with his anti BTDT rhetoric. I am NOT BTDT. I was off TS this weekend, and now back on TS while folks prattle on conference calls.
Pman you make some very nice arguments but your delusional if a) you think it's not obvious that you are replying to yourself, b) you think we care about what happened 7 years ago on TS. It would be so nice if you focused on the actual content and just stopped with your "omg BTNT... " intros. I don't care about his motivation, many of his points are solid, as are yours.
I posted this earlier, but my take is that the very same people that value elite club soccer experiences, value elite college experiences. It's not really about soccer nor academics, it's about family experiences and inclusion in respected communities that signal our values and place in the social hierarchy ("National Showcases" "Elite LACs")
This is why is makes so much sense that any one family might directly compare HC and Bowdoin, Fordham or Middlebury, but never FSU and Trinity. It also makes sense that this is why we argue about it so much - because it's about status signaling, and each side needs to preserver their win - Academics First (D3), Scholly! (from a lesser school), It's D1 (w/o much money).
Can we all agree that the rare few who do get ALL THREE at places like Duke, UVA, or Stanford are deserving of everything they have achieved and are indeed special. The rest of us have fantastic kids that we all love and we have to make a decision balancing Affordability, Academics, Athletics, and Accessibility (travel). How one family balances vs. another is for no one to judge.

As in D1, there are multiple levels of competitiveness. Top 10, top 25, top 50, top 100, etc.
Take a look at the schools your kid is interested in. Take a look at the club backgrounds of the starters. that should give you a pretty good idea.
