There won't be a NEXT tournament.

Your noise isn't going to stop ECNL in Portland. It isn't going to stop the bleeding at TA clubs. Portland families are starting to get it. TA clubs have never and never will be committed to girls soccer. You will have to find a new way to fund your boys soccer.
      Another angry post.

I think they have two more at least. I think you are thinking of your dd who won't make the traveling roster any time soon.

O.K. thanks for the info everyone.

To summarize, the Thorns Academy has played in FWRL and finished 4th out of six teams. They are currently playing in the winter league / H.S. with OYSA, and will end by playing in the vegas showcase in a lower bracket?

I have a dd on a U14 team playing in OYSA. It's a decent team that finishes at the top 1, 2, 3 places, we travel pretty extensively, etc. Why wouldn't it be better to just have the team stay together and play throughout H.S.?

You have to realize that the Thorns were basically a new team. About 6 players from the Westside team played on it due to players going back to their age and playing, some players quitting soccer, some injuries, an exchange student, girls moving to other teams... They are a pretty good team with a lot of talent. The FWRL results aren't indicative of the quality of that team. They are a team that had a lot of jelling to do. When your dd us of age you will have a completely different team and it will have a different experience and results. Also note they are doing a whitecaps showcase in April and a Colorado showcase in May. Other tournaments a re being discussed. But if you like your team you can always keep it together and just do what you are doing now. Also, you might have some teammates move to ECNL teams. Depending upon how many you might not have a very large roster left.

Unless your U14 team is at FCP or Crossfire/THUSC it simply won't stay together. The better players will leave. Just the way it is.

Never happen. Tina and the Thorns crowd know that anything less than a dominating win by the Thorns would spell the immediate end of the Academy. And the Timbers can't risk that as their Alliance clubs would then lose all the rest of their girls.

You are in fantasy land...granted some may leave because they buy the marketing hype...they likely are not the "best" players they are the next tier down whose mom and dad feel they haven't been given their due, and are willing to pay a bundle to get them "on the field"... Truly the "best" players don't need ECNL. They probably already have someone's attention.

Doubtful but still they will avoid them.

and it will basically be the same thing every year. They will have a month to 'gel' and then it's off to FWRL to play bad. Take a tour in OYSA and then go to Vegas. It's a flawed model. In theory it sounds O.K. but every year it will be basically a new team. The adims at the bigger tourneys are not stupid. It will had for thorns acad. to get into any major tourneys with unproven histories.

The old WST 'rage' or whatever they were called (5) went to the Thorns. Otherwise there are no great H.S. teams in OYSA. However, it's basically been THUSC and FCP even when the league were joined.
