I don't know about you buy my family will not have any issues with 72 hours notice. We should be able to put our soccer stuff together by then
I was the one you replied to. We are at the beach and have the ability to keep the house until Sunday. But if my daughter made the team we'd head back Friday. So it's an $800 question for us. Need to cancel soon for Sat/Sun if we are leaving.
I know those training sessions aren't life or death, but my daughter doesn't not like to miss. I'd wager she is 50/50 to make the team.
Does anyone know if Weds is when they post? I'd prefer to turn off the internet so at least knowing when would be helpful.

If they really expect kids to show up to training this weekend it would be common courtesy to let people know with reasonable notice who is on the team.
And it would be nice to know lottery numbers before they draw wining number's . Did you miss the part about trianing this weelend if your child made it past the 1st cut . Ever heard of a back up plan.

Congratulations to the boys/girls that made the teams. If your girl/boy didn't make it hopefully they take it as a challenge to win a spot next go around.

So first weekend of training in the books. Will they be fielding some strong teams for friendship cup? Have the teams been split A and B?

I thought they continued to cut until they had a premier team of 18. So far I like the coach and the weekend of training. I'm wondering if it's a bit too much too soon though. Do both teams play in the friendship cup?

American soccer is still, by in large, pay for play, for better for worse (mostly worse). ODP is really no different that way than almost any other system, the US Soccer training sessions being a notable exception.
My daughter is in 2001, so the RTC system was different, and she has now been invited to the Region IV camp this summer...for another $600. I was unhappy with the RTC part, mostly because of the timing of practices and the tryout process for the state pool of this age group seemed incredibly unorganized to start. But I think that's less to do with it being a money grab, or super political, and more about a system that brings a bunch of coaches, players and parents together without much of a support infrastructure and in the middle of everyone's club season, including many of the coaches.
However, since the state pool has been formed I've been overall pretty impressed with the training and while no doubt this is not the absolute strongest set of players at this age group because of ECNL etc., it averages a much higher skill level than her club team, which is not bad, and this translates to a higher intensity at practice etc. No doubt, having watched SoCal when she gets to regional camp that intensity will get further ramped up, and she'll get her butt kicked up and down the field, which will be great for her and her game.
If you can afford it, and if your kid is decent enough to get to the state pool the advantages seem pretty obvious: your player gets out of their usual local/club bubble, gets to interact with different, often quite decent, coaches, and makes new friends with other players from across the state. Now if Merritt Paulson would just pay for it all.

My daughter is a very good player but I wouldn't call her a superstar. ODP/RTC cost us $400 for the year. She has been to a lot of training sessions with a lot of the top players in the state. Now with the state team she is playing with even more and higher quality players.
The coaching has been mostly very good and different from her club coach.
My daughter has improved noticeably.
Unless you are replacing it with other supplemental training, I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't do it. The different experience with different players and different coaches seems incredibly valuable. In fact, it seems like a bargain to me.
