Realities of club soccer, would you do something different?

I saw a earlier post on this page and thought I would put a twist on the question...

Parents, who have kids who are all done playing club (or near done) now that you have the advantage of hind site, what would you do different?

    Asking for a friend.

No regrets with club per say, just wish we had said no to a few things more often and stressed less. Things have a way of working out, and you can't get those 3 day holiday weekends back (sorry but spending them at tournaments isn't a vacation, nor a meaningful family trip for everyone). Aiming to have more balance with the youngest before he leaves the nest.

Hind site is always 20/20. Sure I would have loved to have changed a few things before t in the end it all worked out and my daughter wound up selecting the right college program for her. She isn’t going to play on the USWNT or go to UNC but that’s ok

        Biggest regrets.

        1. Not picking the right club sooner
        2. Not taking video of every game

Not doing as much travel club soccer so the kid could earn a 3.5 GPA and have 100% of tuition covered under the Bright Futures award. Have a shot at getting admitted to college.

More students will stay in state because of Bright Futures but do the universities like UF close more doors to letting them in.

"The Senate’s approval marks a dramatic investment of $124 million in a program that suffered after the recession, but that proponents say is worth the expense to keep talented students in state and increase college access."

            To qualify
Florida Academic Scholars: 3.5 weighted GPA, a 29 on ACT or 1,290 on the SAT, and 100 service hours.

Florida Medallion Scholars: 3.0 weighted GPA, a 26 on the ACT or 1,170 on the SAT, and 75 service hours.

Doubt travel soccer was the reason for not achieving a 3.5 GPA.

soccer players, also don't forget to get those 100 volunteer hours done before the end of the senior year. Getting a 29 ACT is in the 93rd percentile and how many Florida seniors are hitting that mark to get the Academica Scholars 100% award? Now that Florida is giving out more merit money through these Bright Futures awards, are more bright students staying in Florida? On top of Bright Futures increasig for 2017 and 2018 , students are mass applying using the common app (only the last two years) from around the world so UF and FSU are admitting a larger percentage of students from around the world. It keeps getting harder for Florida's bright students to have access to Florida's top colleges.

Don’t blame soccer when your child is achieving mediocre results in gen pop. I’m pretty sure they were not close to the required 29 either.

Parents are sure going to be behind their butts to get their GPAs and test scores up when money is on the line. Florida shall not be at the bottom of education in the nation any longer.

Soccer tryouts are going on and time to choose. College decision day is today, and can students enroll in only one college?

The high school did a college decision day and had the seniors wear their college shirt. No pressure on these kids to announce.

No more tryouts for the oldest but the younger ones will get to announce their soccer club and teams.

Made the third team again but worth every penny.
