Foreign players in college soccer

That is not what this thread is about. It's merely pointing out that some teams offer more spots to internationals to win in college soccer than other teams that offer spots to US soccer kids who have invested in US soccer by dumping a ton of $$$ into the system and all associated with it. Btw the US soccer kids are of all races, sexual orientations and religions as well. Also, their grandparents, great-grandparents and/or parents may be immigrants, but they are US soccer kids. That's all.

Why are you shaming those who were born in the US playing for US schools (or trying to)instead of playing for international schools? Why is that a bad thing? Why are you trying to make it that it is?

At the highest level of soccer there is very little diversity in sexual orientation. The best players in the men's and women's programs like girls.

I was the one who pointed out that soccer-motivated kids work harder at their game than US kids but in more informal ways. It's the other guy who claims immigrant kids don't work hard and his white kid does.

Go and read it again...the follow-up poster never said his kid was white. I just re-read it and he never even referenced his kid...he referenced his kids team...which I would guess isn't 100% white since there are usually 20-25 kids on a team and with standard society demographics it would be rare that a team is 100% white.

The original poster actually said, "The best and most committed players are the children of immigrants." So isn't he saying that American kids are the worst and least committed players?


You should pause before you attack...sometimes it makes sense to read some of these posts from a different perspective to see if the craziness in your head is accurate before posting.

For the Irish women, you are seeing the 2nd or 3rd rated players who have few choices since the goal is to be in the pro leagues for the best. Going to college is secondary and many don't. We don't have the college teams like in the States. NT is mostly top clubs in Ireland and abroad.

Again, this was a long time ago when there wasn't much infrastructure in the women's game overseas.

Remember that the process for many of these foreign players to come to U.S. colleges is the same as U.S. players. Few college coaches are actively looking abroad for talent (most barely look further than a couple hundred miles from campus). Most often the players, whether they are from the U.S. or not, are initiating the contact and then the coach invites them to an ID camp and campus visit. These foreign players then need to show they are one of the best to get a roster spot. So I highly doubt most college programs are actively "importing" them.

If they are foreign, they don't qualify for federal loans and since scholarships are few, they are probably paying full bill. They must really value an American education.

I was only speaking about talent level and aspirations in the current environment, not the state of infrastructure which is still poor. The European clubs only really started pushing the women's side of their clubs over the last 10-15 years. They are still woefully underpaid and treated as 2nd class. In Ireland, it's even worse than most of Europe. The local/county ladies clubs have struggled to stay afloat. There are no real paid contracts like in England, etc. FIA started a National Women's League a year or so ago, but is already reducing its schedule to a summer-only league due to a lack of funding/interest. I attended two of these games last summer and there was hardly anyone in the stands. Nothing like the pro leagues in England or here in the U.S. Even the Irish women's NT was threatening to strike over pay and conditions recently.

Still a pro contract is the preferred path for the best Irish players. The girls you see in the States aren't getting serious looks or permanent roster spots back home and are hoping to at least get an American education or to attract some attention for playing internationally, but they certainly aren't the best.

All that matters is they are athletes. Do you go on NFL blogs and suggest male football players are gay because they shower together?
