Leaving scholarships and ECNL cost out of the equation for a moment ---
Things change. Just because it used to work like this back in the day doesn't mean that's how colleges recruit today.
It appears that college coaches flock to the ECNL because that's the model that the majority of talented players have chosen. Doesn't mean they don't look elsewhere but with their limited recruiting time and budgets it make financial sense to go where the players are.
I have a kid who went through the pre ECNL era of staying local -playing for a local club and traveling to showcase tournaments. I also have a younger kid in the ECNL.
There is absolutely no comparison in the exposure. There is an exponential difference in the number of coaches at ECNL events as compared to the traditional showcase events.
We can debate all day if it's worth it but there's no denying the fact that college coaches have embraced the ECNL model.

Recruiters also look at players that impress the recruiters by doing what they are supposed to do to catch the recruiters' attention. Do the work the right way and players outside of ECNL events DO get the attention and offers they seek.

Again, you don't get it. College coaches don't have unlimited funds to look for talent, ergo they flock to the big events. If your dd is not doing ECNL, she needs to be on a team that travels to the more well known events or travel to the college camps. They are not trolling OYSA league or H.S. matches, unless they are located in the Willamette valley.

Having the Oregon Local Club teams participate in the ECNL showcases for exposure is like William Hung auditioning on American Idol in front of a panel of judges. Same outcome as the Local club girls, exposure yes! ticket to the next round No! Memory priceless and he still has to pay the cost of traveling. But he did make an impression :)

Now Imagine a third ECNL team, but even worse talent - wise attempting the same thing against a Seattle team and a bunch of SoCal teams. Good times. Go GDA, Go Thorns!

Don't need to imagine anything, right now it's available in living color and like Mr. Hung available on youtube for all. She Bangs the ball! She Bangs into her opponent! Parents Bang their heads against the wall! She Bangs! She Bangs!

Having seen the 2 local girls clubs play a few games in the ECNLeague seriously it's impossible to imagine the notion there is even worse talent in the local market.

FACT: Most of the best players play ECNL, there are some really good players in non ECNL however.

I liken this to good football players in the PAC-12, SEC etc. vs. players in FCS and smaller conferences. You always have diamonds in the rough.

FACT: Girls play in the ECNL because of the exposure to college coaches, because the events are excellent (Surf Cup-like) and because their parents have the money. We understand the ECNL is not composed of ALL the best teams. Sorry you can't afford to play, that's life.

FACT: Outside of the LAS Vegas Showcase and Surf Cup, the events draw huge crowds of coaches. Our girls attend 3-4 Surf Cup like showcases in different parts of the country all coordinated by the same organization! Our girls are exposed to coaches form all over the US.

FACT: Although most girls dream of being on the national team there will only be a few that can break in (ie. Ashley Sanchez/Mallory Pugh) as the WNT roster is filled with vets that pay up to 35!!!!. Most who are good enough bounce around in the WNT pools or play on U23 teams and below.

FACT: Girls DA doesn't sound fun and there are a lot of restrictions. Most DA players are just there to support the Mallory Pughs of the world.

If ECNL evolves in a good way I see them throwing a knock out punch to the Girls DA before it gets started. US soccer has bitten off way to much. They are dealing with a struggling mens team, a unhappy WNT team (being underpaid) and anger form many in America for changing the birth age. They need to straighten our their existing problems before starting a new project.

ECNL (a league) vs US Soccer.

Probability metrics of ECNL (a league) defeating US Soccer .0001% at any level.

No need. US Soccer will beat itself. GDA will be a monumental failure just like the boys DA.
