Crazy talk. It's too much a part of our culture and affords many kids opportunities they cannot have because of the costs of participating in outside programs. School boards feel there is value in athletic programs in teaching kids team work, school pride, commitment, dedication, or simply another way to keep them out of trouble. No way they'd ever let that happen. "Professional youth sports is already sucked the much of the fun and lifeblood out of our youth; taking it away from schools would seal it.

So, either the DA is severely watered down or the clubs are so far apart that travel expenses will be even higher than ECNL. Either way, the DA will struggle.
And every single one of those clubs will apply for the girls DA. Stop kidding yourself. Most of those clubs are already DA clubs on the boys side. They are not going to upset the apple cart. Girls DA will be the top league and drive the recruiting bus. The real problem is there are not even ashes left from the bridges burnt by ecnl folks over the years. Lots of crow to be seasoned and served coming up in a year as clubs scramble to market state cups and regional leagues again.

Ladies and gentleman here is what Thorns Academy is doing in their own backyard against ECNL reserves. How are they going to fare against the nation's best?

How many DA clubs are also ECNL clubs? Us soccer will force them to move? Us soccer selects national teams and will choose players from the DA, just like the boys. Will they be the best? Won't matter.

We'll see about that. DA will be third tier and then fold after about 2 years. It's just not an attractive option for 99.999% of the girls.

On the girls side, nobody cares about the National team or pro soccer. It's all about college. The ECNL has that figured out extremely well and the DA won't be able to match it. DA will crash and burn, if it ever even gets started.

Still no official announcement from US Soccer. Just dropping little hints to gauge the level of acceptance. With the feedback they're getting, they'll be crazy to start a new league that isn't needed. But maybe they are just stupid enough to do it and fail.

Some won't be able to afford to run both. Often times girls tams fund the boys DA programs, which run at a loss or barely break even. It seems ECNL is sticking together for now. Time will tell how it all plays out, but in the meantime it will be an ugly mess

Can't be any worse than the Oregon ECNL teams and their .200 winning percentage over the past two years.

Oregon ECNL is playing against some of the best teams in the country. Thorns Academy is playing against B teams from Oregon

I don't think their are many teams in Oregon that have bragging rights for much.

Since the majority of top girls are all about college as the end game, ECNL should keep all their teams on the current "academic soccer age groups" to aid in recruiting and keep the teams with girls in their prime recruiting years together. ECNL runs its own leagues so no problem if everyone is going by academic year but "playing up" in birth year to satisfy the mandate. Staying with more grade based teams and allowing girls to play HS ball, would both really give ECNL an edge to keep most girls.
