ODP for GK's- Is it worth it?

Thinking of having my daughter try out for Olympic Development GK Training Program. Anyone have experience with it? Is it worth the drive- we are not too close to Marlborough.

Yes, totally worth it... especially if you want to go to Stanford.

I hear the only way you can get in now is to play MASS ODP.

Just looking for info. Daughter did club last year and is taking a breather. Thought it might be a good way to keep her involved during the winter. Happy to hear from kind and pleasant people.

It's ODP .... a garbage program and money maker for keepers and field players alike. If your kid needs work, pay for the specific training. ODP training for keepers is as good as it is for outside backs. You show up, drop off another check, run around some cones, run through some shooting drills, and then scrimmage a lot. Then you get in your car, go back home, and come back next month (if it isn't canceled) and do it again.

Just like all else the quality of any program is driven by the quality of the coaching. ODP no longer has that. Save your $ and find her some quality camps or do some semi-private sessions with a quality GK trainer. And only do that if she really wants to. You said she took time off which indicates her interest is probably waning altogether.

Has value. Good introduction to high level training and expectations. Worth checking out.

evaluate it as you would any other additional training opportunity:
                      - Who would be running the GK training for your daughter and how good are they?
                      - What is the cost vs. the training sessions i.e cost per session?
                      - How far is the travel and is it worth the trip?

Forget about the initials ODP; the initials mean little these days, but if by chance they have a strong GK training coach, it may be a good opportunity.

The GK training in ODP is trash. They train to the lowest skill level and keep repeating the basics. If that’s what you are after skip ODP and find a good trainer. The true value of ODP is as measuring stick. Give it 2 years. If by then your kid hasn’t gotten a sniff of the regional pool that will tell you soccer is not likely going to be a spike come the college decision years so plan accordingly

From our experience, some states have great GK training some don't. Maybe check it out and see for yourself what MASS is this year.

Regional teams have top notch training.
